Note: The new story submission period has ended. All authors will be contacted shortly.
Hello all! As you may have heard, we have asked our fans for help in contributing to the literature of Arcanum! So, for those of you who are interested in being published, and perhaps seeing your works in the Tarantian Library, or the Ancient Annals if Tulla, then pull out your quills and start writing! Below are the guidelines you should try to follow when thinking about what to write.
-
Whenever possible, we are trying to stay in the period around the late 1800's. When writing, think about what was important at that time (and what wasn't...no aliens!). Take those ideas, and project them into Arcanum...
-
There is a 10,000 character limit per book. (Characters! Not words…) So, if you write a single piece which has more than 10,000 characters (letters, numbers, and punctuation) and you are selected, you may have to be published in multiple volumes.
-
There is approximately a 2000 character limit for newspapers (maybe 325 words, depending on the words)
-
When possible, try to write in the language of the period, or at least how you think they would have spoken/written. A good guide can be found in the World section of this website.
-
If you have a particular pen name you'd like to use with the piece, then do so.
-
In regards to historical writings: The important historical events of Arcanum have already been worked out by the designers, and will be revealed during gameplay. Writers may be best served by focusing on contemporary subjects having to do with poetry, philosophy, science, fiction, etc. It's not impossible that a piece of history might be incorporated into the existing design, but it would be the exception and not the rule.
-
Address all submissions to submissions@troikagames.com. Include the text within the body of the email message or as an attached Microsoft Word Document (.doc) or plain text file (.txt).
-
All submissions must be received by August 1st.
-
Writers chosen for inclusion in the game publication will be contacted via email.
-
By submitting your work, you grant Sierra a royalty free license to use the
material in the game. If your work is chosen, you must sign and return
a legal release.
That's it! Have fun!
