You should've payed attention to dialog. Maxim says he'll make you a mechanized gun if you bring him Clarington Rifle and pure ore. Auto loading mechanism is mentioned in your logbook which is obviously a bug.

Firearms are more expensive than magic, but can ultimately be more effective.

I just started using Tranquilizer Gun and Blade Launcher – no one will convince me that firearms suck (at least not all of them).

I'm sorry I have to disagree with this one. I Like the firearms and such and my next charecter will be pure tech BUT my mage is completly unstoppable. I have 20 dx,str,wp meelee master and the best sword I can find now is arcane. I have a full bar move points and can destroy a rom full of anything in a matter of seconds. Once you master the colleg of force the game becomes WAY too easy. Disentagrate for 25ft and lighting for 12. Thats ALOT of electrical damge for very little ft.

Ex. I just went to the Iron clan and got the durin stone. I took out all of the Automatoun(sp?) with 4 jolts. And still had move points left over. I dont know if any gunslinger can do that in less than one turn.

I'm not flamming, mearly expresing my opion. I dont want to start a war here. Smile

IMHO, if you take Arcanum's unique setting into consideration the firearms thing isn't so bad. After all if it IS a new technology you would expect to get the best items in gunsmithing late in the game. And there are useless high-level spells (divine magick, anyone?) so why shouldn't there be useless high-level guns? (the stupid gun that uses FUEL, of all things, comes to mind)

I did do a gun-wielding character once and it was cool, although it got a bit boring halfway through. You see, you find a gun you like, and you stick with it throughout the rest of the game. All you ever do in combat is aim and shoot, period. No tactics required. With spells you can experiment with different combinations to see what works best.

You're right, I heard lots of people saying how long they have to ponder before they'll finally manage to defeat someone with their fighter/mage :p

The only thing I really dislike about guns is that my followers have to do most of the fighting for me. Also it's far too easy to dodge a bullet.
