Allow me to get this discussion back on track...

I hate poor people.

 

Canada isn't as big an illegal immigrant magnet, but we're a bigger overall immigrant magnet. The problem is that our immigration system sucks, and we have a massive waiting list of people who can't get in. Also, professionals don't want to come here because of the lame re-education program.

 

I have this deep-seated inner conflict between a desire to build a government that helps those who cannot help themselves, and one that makes them suffer for their stupidity.

 

Grakelin, what is the re-education program of Canada?

PhillyD made me aware the Wal-Mart is now in the business of selling cabinets. Does anybody else follow PhillyD at all?

 

When you come to Canada from other countries and you have a doctorate, you have to do your doctorate over again, with a few exceptions. This is why there are so many people with shitty jobs like taxi drivers or Wal-Mart employees who have Ph. Ds.

There is a problem with this in the US, too, unless people have been lying to me about rich blokes moving to the USA and having to take multiple jobs; but I'm not sure why this is.

 

I'm not sure if this is what you mean Grak, but I knew a waitress who had a PhD in Physics. But she wasn't able to pursue her career for cultural reasons. She was either Muslim or Hindi and her husband didn't have a great job so he forbade her from getting a job better than his. He eventually got a great job and she's now a college professor at a local college.

 

I once knew a homeless person who also had a PhD in physics, but due to hard times lost everything and now begs for food. He could be lying though since he also told me that he used to be the 5th member of the Fantastic Four, but was kicked out for being too awesome.
