Even though I had no say, official or otherwise, on the subject of Philes' avatar, I feel proud that this thread, to which I contributed, finally achieved something. Keep up the good work, homies.

That could not have reminded me more of the narrator of The Forgotten Tower quest in Diablo 2.

I'm not saying wobbler won't get an avatar, but perhaps we should move on to Grakelin. For now. We can always come back to wobbler later.

    Suggestions for Grakelin?

Well at least that's one slightly obscure reference I actually understood on this forum!

I can't think of anything for Grakelin, but seeing as wayne joined on the same day I did have an idea for him. Remember that time when he posted up a pic of a fish in a guy's ass? Ideally I would want that pic but as it's nsfw (and also deleted from that thread so that the actual picture would be hard to locate), in lieu of that and drawn by my own artistic hand I came up with this:

I thought it would suit because wayne's a seemingly intelligent guy, with fairly high brow tastes in music and I'd imagine a lot of other things too - so such low brow humour is more ironic and is applicable to the times when he makes crude one word insults. As a title, I don't know, I would think a title unrelated to the picture would be fine; if not then maybe "Coming to a Fish & Chip shop near you!"

We've already had two suggestions for wayne - HAL and the Spock puppet. I prefer one of those, since they reflect his personality, rather than being based on a single image he posted one time.

Your drawing is cool though. Maybe we can keep it and use it for your avatar one day.

I actually prefer the HAL avatar. But if you want a title with fish assortments then I rather recommend:

    'Thank you for the fish'

I always felt inside like I was a rectalphilic lascivious sea bass - how did you know?

In that case the current contenders are:

    Fucking illogical, captain.

    or

    Obstreperous Difference Engine

I'd be inclined to go for the spock puppet, I think it does cleave closer to wayne's personality - but then again I never watched 2001 A Space Odyssey. I thought a narrow crop was good for the spock puppet due to its thin face, but if anyone feels like they could do better then please do. I'm only cropping the images as I'm still on vacation with very little to do, I'm not trying to take charge if that's what it seems like.

If you can be bothered to collate cropped images for Grakelin and come up some unique suggestions yourself, please do. There had just been more discussion for wayne at the time when I posted which is why I thought it might be a bit simpler to resolve wayne first, also I was bored and wanted to draw a fish. Saying "We are looking for Grakelin not Wayne." doesn't accomplish anything.

I just think Grakelin is the kind of person best left 'til later; he has a wry understated demeanor and sense of humour which makes it more difficult to assign an avatar than other more flamboyant members and so requires more thought. I'm not childish enough to skip over him just because we had a minor spat in a different thread, and just because we did hasn't coloured my liking of him in general. Maybe I'm assuming too much of why Zanza posted what he did.

Unless people can come up with something more concrete for Grakelin, any ayes or nayes for wayne's avatars - or any others you want to suggest?

I think that if nobody can come up with any popular suggestions for a poster's custom avatar, then that is a fairly strong indication that the poster hasn't yet met the "distinctive personality" requirement for receiving one. So I think it's okay to skip over some people in the list.

So far, the only thing anyone has proposed for Grakelin is a photo of MacGyver, based on the reasoning that his current avatar looks a bit like Richard Dean Anderson. Some people have then tried to justify it with "Oh but, you know, he is sort of like him". In my opinion, that's pretty weak.

Nice try, but Jojobo is still butt hurt I didn't find his rape videos funny (hence his mentioning them for no virtually no reason in this thread). I don't really want to be the one who stands up in his own defense, but I feel like I would have said something if it had been somebody else. You can't give a description of my personality and then say I don't have one.

That said, my vote on Wayne-Scales goes to Spock, combined with the title "Thanks For Alll the Fish". I feel it is suitably discordian.

Glad you like my title for Wayne 'Thanks for All The Fish'. But I still in dubio which avatar we should do. HAL or Spock. Another option is Marvin.

Marvin: 'Opening Doors. Brain size of the Earth.'

Incidentally, I don't really care either way about the avatar - it feels like an "Honorary Academy Award", being given out because it's been so long (especially when it's in the same batch as Arthgon and Wobbler). What irks me is this constant appraisal that I have no "distinctive personality". It's always relative newbies who paint me with that brush.

The only "undistinctive" thing about me is that I don't start wild controversies or act like a troll. I've always stuck by my guns and done what I thought best.

I was arguably the first to tell Xiao_Caity that she was stupid (though that's not "distinctive" because I didn't write erotic porn about her). Her hanger-on was obviously considered to have a distinctive personality.

I got into a goreporn image war with Muro which prompted Xz to put up our SFW thread (a travesty, imo. This isn't work).

What exactly do you do around here, Jojobo, that makes you so "distinctive"? When I joined, you had to have a thick skin. In the past couple years, we let -anybody- hang out here, free of troll hazing.

And I stand by my assertion that your contientious and sincere personality, perhaps even indistinct in the jungle of personality disorders, reminds me of Macguyver.

Consider the picture next to Grakelin's blog about his mortgage banking, or a post explaining that "actually I think that [someone] was trying to say [something]" or "the answer to your thus far ignored question is..."

Again, Macguyver, "No Fact Too Small."

No I just felt like Zanza's comment was a bit out of the blue and unnecessary as it's perfectly valid to change the focus to someone who joined on the same day, there is no chronological order and so there shouldn't be any priority between assigning you or wayne. So along that train of thought it seemed like he was trying to defend you because he felt I was trying to discretely shank you. I always extrapolate in my mind motives for why people post things, it's just how my thought process works, and it leads to massive errors in judgement as with Smuel and other times I could list but don't care to. Still I thought I was on the money with Zanza and so a response was necessary.

I'm not butt hurt, though I try to occaisionally post something humourous I often don't strike the mark and I don't think a lot of what I say people find funny most of the time. The only reason why I responded the way I did to you was because rather than you not finding what I put funny and saying so you actually went to the lengths of making an elaborate post to illustrate how entirely unfunny you found it - which I thought was a bit excessive. What I don't understand now is how you can't graciously accept a compliment, if someone thought I had a wry sense of humour I would be quite happy with that.

Rather than posting here because I like the satisfaction and gratification of other people finding me amusing, I post for my own amusement and interest that I find in all the members here (well apart from the ones that are pretty much exclusively trolls). I don't hold grudges, but clearly I give off some strong vibe that I do. I think the case is rather then me misjudging you, you are chronically misjudging me.

People said that images needed to be cropped for this thread to progress so all I've been doing is cropping them, nothing else. Still I think it's probably best if I just leave that to other people from now on.

Also an aye from me the title Thanks for All the Fish with the spock avatar for the reasons Grakelin suggested.

Nothing makes me distinctive; I'm often quite sporadic with how I post, I'm insincere at times when I should be more so, I sloppily leave words out or use incorrect words in their stead. Ultimately, I don't think I deserve a custom avatar.

I never said you were indistinct, I said that you had a personality that's difficult to put a picture to, if anything that's because you are complex. Wry, understated and - as I would agree with ytzk - sincere are all good things.

I never expected to get one. So. I feel honored, but at the same time a bit....I do not know. Worried and cynical?

Do we still want to give Wayne one, even though he does not care that much about it?

Jobo: I came with the 'Thank you All with the fish' first. Even though I said or wrote it wrong.
