The mercenary hesitated, as if unsure of what to do. He didn’t appear to be armed, but Trevor knew his kind – one utterance or gesture and all hell would break loose. Better play it safe with this one. And for a while there, both men stood dead still, waiting for the other to make his move.

And then there was a scream. From the Panarii Temple. Great, so now there’s more trouble.

    ”If you want to help, now’s the time!” Trevor shouted and bash opened the doors, entering the main hall of the temple. It was empty, but there were still more shouts and disturbances downstairs. He rushed down headlong, feet barely touching the steps. There was a corridor. Two people in it. He produced his gun, saying;

”Stop where you are, you pansies”

And he was looking into the eyes of a priest and a beautiful half-elven girl.

    ”What the hell?”

Having heard the screaming I saw the man run over and nearly knock down the door as he rammed through it, I ran with the man in to the temple. For being a temple it was strange I felt uneasy as I ran in, and it wasn’t just the screaming and now moving side my side with the man who was just pointing a gun at me, It was something ells. I continued into the temple moving right behind the man.

After running in to the lower levels of the temple he stopped, there was a priest and robed half-elf girl in front of us. The man yelled
â€￾Stop where you are, you pansiesâ€￾ wile bring his gun to a firing position. I was surveying the area when I heard someone screaming “RED! AZRI! TEEH ELLE!â€￾ from a door down the hall. Darting past the man and keeping as safe a distance from the other two as I could in the narrow hall, I made my way to the door. I Yelling to the other side “Get back!â€￾ as I put my hand to the door, and with one word from my lips I nearly disintegrated the doorway. I guess I over estimated the strength of that flimsy wooden door. The area now filled with smoke and small pieces of falling wood I could see a person loosely chained to the floor in the room. I stared the person waiting for the smoke to clear from the strangely humid room.

(So we all meet at last.)

I kept on shouting, calling for them. And they came. In. Rather violently. Two of them. Good, now the woman would be safe. I heard one of them saying â€￾Stop...â€￾ but I missed the rest, as my own screaming filled my ears. I didn’t care about myself, I knew I was going to die anyway. But if only they could save the girl...
    Suddenly a male voice screamed,
“Get back!â€￾ and I crouched in the corner, my front facing the wall. The door was almost disintegrated, and the room was filled with smoke and a smell of burning wood and dust. I coughed and turned around. A young, red-haired elf was staring at me. I wanted to laugh, were my visions so trivial as to make “redâ€￾ stand for this elf? I felt something similar to relief and gratefulness for some seconds, and then I remembered. I wasn’t worth his being there.
“You stupid! This could’ve been an ambush! Go and get the pretty girl, don’t waste your time with me!â€￾

It all happened so fast. First, there was a scream coming from another room in the temple. Then two men suddenly came rushing down the stairs. One human, and one elf. The human drew his gun, aiming it at the priest and me. The elf ran to one of the doors and blasted it to pieces.

The priest pulled me in front of him. I heard a low snarl deep in his throat. His gentle old hands changed. There was no longer a priest behind me. There was only a monster, with pale, strong hands. It used me as a shield, although it probably didn’t need it. And it laughed.

As the smoke and debris cleared the air I saw a half-breed huddling in the corner “are you all rightâ€￾ she got a strange smirk on her face when she first saw me then she shouted “You stupid! This could’ve been an ambush! Go and get the pretty girl, don’t waste your time with me!â€￾ Hearing that, I looked back at the priest. He’d grabbed the girl, and was using her as a shield against the man with the gun. Trying not to hurt the girl I quickly drew a dagger from my boot and through it into his back. Instead of killing him it only seemed to make him angry. He looked back at me and growled, he’d become one of those things. He was holding the girl right next to him so I couldn’t just burn him either, I had to think quickly. I got an idea and raise shields of protection around me and the girl, I may only get one shot so I’d better make it count.

Air getting clearer, situation also. He'd went to the temple to ask for help; appearently, the clergy wouldn't offer any such thing. The elven mercenary, trying to do something with his fancy magic, except he is unaware of what the fucker is about to do to him. Had to get him off balance.

Steady now, steady aim. Might be the only chance you've got, old man.

... and, you really shouldn't drink before matters of importance. Got to remember that.

    Lock.

    Stock.

    And one smoking barrel.

“are you all rightâ€￾ he’d asked. Caring, in spite of his tough appearance. Of course I was all right... I leaned on the wall, breathing in and out deeply. I smiled to myself, “I did it. I got them together.â€￾ My mission was over... But I had an odd feeling about this business. It was as if they weren’t a balanced unit, as if some link was missing in their chain. I heard someone coming; I turned around to meet the other man and I found myself facing one of the others. The one that’d caught me the night before.
He grabbed me by the head, covering my entire face with his hand, choking me. I wriggled and tried to bite him but his skin was thick. He pressed me to his chest and whispered in my ear, "Thank you..." So what I’d done had been silly. Well, I had one last resource, even though it would mean my own destruction.

“Do it,â€￾ a voice whispered inside my head.

I prayed for them to be fine. At least they would be together.

As the creature glared at me the man fired his gun hitting the thing right square in the head. The shock caused it to release the girl. At this point I through a fire ball hitting the creature throwing it to the ground. I thought this thing hast to be dead, but then I saw its burning body start to move again.

(OOC: DE you made these thing to hard to kill, somebody find a piece of the door and stab it.)

While the monster used me as a shield, he turned and glared at the red haired elf. Behind him, and in front of me, the man was aiming his gun. He fired it, and hit the once so friendly priest in the head. He let me go. When the monster once again focused on the man with the gun, the elf sent a fire ball straight at it, sending it to the ground.

I was still pretty much in shock when the thing got himself to his feet, laughing. His burning hands gripped me once again, but my robe did not start to burn. He quickly looked at the man and the elf, and then we were gone. He had taken me with him. Then i fainted.

I noticed that the creature was still alive, at this point the creature sprung to its feet again grabbing the girl, then they vanished. It must have teleported somewhere else. I started to wonder how any creature could have survived that. Then from the shattered doorway I heard a muffled yell, I turned to see what was going on. There was another one of those creatures with his arm out and hand clenched over the half-breeds mouth. “Hay, get off her!â€￾ as I through a small fireball between them, the creature jumped back to avoid the flame. “Now it’s time for you to die!â€￾ I began to mutter a spell holding my hands over one another, conquering a blast I was certain would kill it. Thrusting my hands forward I hurled a flame that engulfed the creature and pinned it against the wall as it was incinerated. I looked ahead to where the creature was before, now there was only a deep crater. In the deepest part of the crater I could see what appeared to be light coming from a room on the other side of the wall. Exhausted from the attack my shield of protection dropped, I fell to my knees, and began to breathe heavily trying to regain my strength.

I heard the elf's voice yelling "Hay, get off her!" and the vampire jumped back to avoid his attack. "Now it's time for you to die!" he shouted and engulfed us both in his fire attack. Had the creature not been holding me close to his chest I would have died for sure. That didn't prevent him from burning the back of my clothes.
The impact of the attack pushed me through the wall, into another room.
The bastard. How could he be so careless.
I wriggled a bit to see if there was anything broken. My left shoulder, the one that had received the wall first, was in an awkward angle. There was no pain yet, but soon there would be, I already knew the stab of broken parts. I felt the blood dripping from the back of my head.
I kneeled and my right hand found a small yet decent piece of wall debris. "This will do," I thought.
I raised my arm, aimed and threw it to the other side, through the hole in the wall.
It hit the red-haired elf right in the face and knocked him out. I saw his body falling flat on the floor.
    That would teach him.
I was on my hands and knees again, panting. I lowered my head and through the arch of my legs, now naked, I saw the light.
    I turned around.
"What the hell," I thought, before passing out.

Note: The sympathetic, sacrificial-lamb attitude just doesn't suit my character, guys.

(Well I’ll let the dice decide this one and…)

    Option one is…
    #6 = something on fire: #3 = an object
    So there’s a burning object.
#3 a weapon: #1 usable weapon: #1 Ranged: #2 throwing: #2 Magic: #2 fire is part of weapon: #2 dagger: #1 not cursed: #2 no other abilities
I just gave the options it could have been anything. But it is a… Throwing dagger of fire.
On a scale of 1-12 its power level is… 5 just below average. “Damn I was hoping it would be stronger.

    Option two is…
#3 an Object: #4 an item: #1 Usable item: #5 treasure: #4 pile of gold: #1 not burning: #1 Light shining on gold: #1 light from object shining on it: #3 other (not #1 Torch #2 mirror): #1 light is reflecting off a suite of armor: #2 nothing special about armor: #2 Brest Plate
Ahhh… I’m not making the light reflecting off the armor to be from a mirror, no more dice, I’m taking it from here It was from two lit torches on the walls.

So there is a pile of gold a mid sized “mirrorâ€￾ and a shiny breastplate. The room is lit by two torches.

And the dice said #3 both, well that was interesting.

    _______________________________________________________________________

As I got up after being knocked out by a piece of debri, only to find out the man and the half-breed where gone. “Damn this sucks!â€￾ I slowly got up and looked through the hole into another room where I saw the half-breed unconscious on the floor with her clothing half burned off. “Is that where that thing came from.â€￾ Crawling through the hole I checked to see if she was still breathing. “Well at least she’s not dead.â€￾ Then started to look around this part of the room for anything of interest. (dice go to work) As I looked up I saw the wall on the far side of the room had a large pile of gold at the bottom of it, there was an armor stand holding a very clean and shiny breast plate, and fare sized mirror against one corner of the wall. “Well this changes everything, now I’m rich.â€￾ As I looted threw the pile I saw a dagger the blade seemed to shimmer with its own light like a flame, I took the dagger and a near by sheath I found, and put them on my belt. After that I started to look around to find something to put the gold in. And keeping a close eye out for any more of those creators, flying peaces of debri, or anyone thinking about taking some of the gold.

"A pile of gold in front of me, a naked girl behind me, and a shiny new dagger to play with. What more could an elf want."

After looking around for a minute, I glanced back at the Half-breed and started thinking to myself “maybe I could use what was left of her clothing to make a bag for the goldâ€￾.

He just couldn't believe how tough these bastards were. The gun had blown half its head off, and then that elven sorceror had cast a spell that would had turned an ogre into charcoal in two seconds, and yet it had easily been able to muster enough energy to teleport itself and that beautiful girl to Halcyon knew where. The elf had managed to destroy the other vampire, though - must have been some sort of weaker specimen - then a captive half-breed had hurled a rock to his head and made him unconcious. Served him right for stealing the show like that.
They'd be alright. The girl taken by the vampire most certainly wouldn't be. But he couldn't save her if he didn't know what to do or where to look.

Perhaps one of the magery types in the Boil knew?

After thinking about how to get both the wounded girl and the gold out of here. I decided to use what I had at my disposal. Striping the half-breed of what was left of her clothing and using the breastplate I fashioned a carrier for the gold. I filled the breastplate with the gold and through the now completely nude Half-breed on. I carried her and the gold out of there which wasn’t exactly and easy thing, moving the girl then caring the gold trying to get up the stare case. Well I couldn’t leave her there in the temple with those things till I got back. Eventually I reached the main street and just about every person was looking at me as I left. :/ There was no wondering why, I was dragging a breastplate full of gold, caring a naked girl on my back, not to mention the cut on my forehead and walking out of a temple like that. Now all I had to do was make my way to a doctor.

As i woke up, I was looking at a stone wall. After checking if i was still alive, i noticed that i was magically fastened to a huge throne. The room i was in, which was a big hall, smelled like a tomb. Even with my inexperience, i figured it was some sort of forgotten castle. Possibly, some of it was underground. I couldnt hear anything but the rustle of rats on the stone floor. As one of them climbed up my legs and headed for my throat, i sent a small harm spell for its disgusting little face. But even that small spell drained my energy as if it was teleport. I fell asleep.

My body ached and I was cold, I felt a bulging bump at the back of the head and the pain in the shoulder had intensified; I was being carried over someone’s shoulder, as if I was a sack of potatoes. I opened my eyes and I found myself looking at the floor. The guy carrying me had to be really strong, for he was also dragging a breastplate full of gold, a breastplate fashioned as a carrier, and to make that he’d used... my clothes?
That’s why I was cold. I was completely naked, except for my tiny insulated panties, hanging around the busy streets of Tarant.
An embarrassed flush must have appeared in my face, but I decided to go on acting as if I’d passed out; anyway, I would pass out again if the guy didn’t lay me somewhere soon. In a tiny voice, I told the one who was carrying me, “I need to get laid now.â€￾ The man laughed and said something I couldn’t hear, and we got to an apothecary's shop.
    I fainted.

Folks loitering about Vermillion Station were treated to a rather unusual site. A half-ogre stepped from the train recently arrived from Ashbury. Alone. Not escorting a gnome, or otherwise serving or protecting a wealthy patron. He dressed in dark leather, and carried a large metal case. Aside from a purse of coin stuffed in an inner pocket of his jacket, he had no other possessions. He liked to travel light, and what meager belongings he had left behind, he would send for once he found himself a new home, in Tarant or elsewhere.

He turned to look at the car he had exited, squinting at the windows until he spotted the wistful face of his former employer. He nodded his head slightly and waved, and the gnome returned the gesture. The half-ogre smiled, squared his shoulders, and turned to his new life...

...and bumped into a small girl--wait--woman. Halfling, he thought. Her hand was extended up, fingertips brushing his leggings. He smiled down at her, as her eyes widened in fright.

"Would you like for me to squat down so you can pick my pocket?" the half-ogre asked.

The halfling woman backpedaled, stammering an apology, before turning and fleeing inside the station building proper.

The half-ogre smiled, shaking his head, then felt something spill down his side. A clink from the station platform at his feet had him looking down. A coin from his purse!

He hurriedly felt for the purse of coin in his jacket. It had been pulled somewhat from the pocket, and more loose coins spilled as he fumbled to secure it. Damnation! How in the hells did she reach it? He would have to count his coins tonight, figure out how much she'd manage to lift.

He stooped to scrape up the loose coins and returned them to the purse. He then returned the purse to his jacket, but found another pocket, higher up, in which to keep it.

He adjusted his grip on the metal case he carried. Once he found lodging for the remainder of the day and the night beyond, he would have to figure out how to readily carry the axe inside. He had a dagger sheathed in his boots for emergencies, but he imagined with the fierce pyrotechnic axe strapped or sheathed in prominent view on his person, he might not face too many emergencies to begin with.

Before his previous employer, he had apprenticed with a blacksmith in Dernholm for a time, and one of his duties had been to work with a local leatherworker to custom fit various scabbards and other rigging to the weapons his employer forged. Before he even left out the front exit of the station, Drub had already visualized exactly the sort of back sheath he would need, and how to properly strap it for optimal draw speed.

Outside the station, Drub turned to one of the guards posted at the entrance.

"Good sir, where may I find an inn for the night?" he asked politely. The guard blinked in surprise at Drub's eloquent speech.

"Uh, your master might find the Bridesdale Inn to his liking--it's down the street to the right, can't miss it. Um..." The guard was looking behind Drub, trying to find the "master" he mistakenly assumed Drub was representing.

"Thank you good sir," Drub replied, nodding his head. He walked past the perplexed guard down Vermillion Road, whistling a rather unexpected melody to even further bewilder the guard.

Not that a half-ogre whistling a merry tune was the most unusual sight on the streets of Tarant at the time...

    Hope a pyrotechnic axe-wielding refined half-ogre isn't too much. :)

On my way down Kensington Broadway I heard the Half-breed whisper “I need to get laid now,â€￾ I started to laugh slightly saying “not now, maybe once your better.â€￾ After reaching Anna’s Herbals I went inside, the couple inside looked up as if to great me when there jaws nearly dropped in shock, they must not get this kind of thing vary often. After the woman recovered I put down the sleeve I had been using to drag the gold and laid the Half-breed down on the nearby table. Now that she was on the table Anna(the Herbalist) started to examine her. Anna looked over at me and said “you should find some place to sit down, I can take this from here.â€￾ So I went in to a corner to rest, count my gold, and watch as she tended to the Half-breed's wounds.

    Welcome aboard Nukenin! :D

Apologies for not writing in 1st person. This happens all the time in tabletop roleplaying too--some players talk in 1st person, as if they were their character, while others talk in 3rd person, as if they were their character's puppetmaster. I go both ways, but for Drub it'll be 3rd person. :)

Drub looked up at the sign. "Geoffrey's Gears & Gadgetry." This place should do. The instruction manual promised that his new pyrotechnic axe never needed refueling, but Drub liked to be prepared, and he wanted an inventor's help to rig his back sheath with a circulating system to keep the axe topped off. He was no technologist, but the flames the axe produced on impact (he'd taken a few trial swings at a barrel on the docks near a junk dealer) had to burn something up. In his envisioned axe sheath, the axe would be slightly more volatile than the instruction manual "guaranteed" it would be alone, so he'd reinforced the sheath with flame retardant materials and bought quick release clasps for all the strapping. He could remove the entire sheath and clear away from it in less than a second. He hoped that he would never find out if that was enough.

He passed through the door. The herbalist who shared the space with the inventor was to one side, tending a rather sturdy half-elf with dark hair laced with a couple white streaks. The woman looked rather not as frail as most half elves Drub had encountered--perhaps some orcish blood? The woman was not fully dressed, however, with burns across her back, so Drub politely averted his gaze.

To another side of the shop, an elf with short-cropped red hair was counting what appeared to be a pile of gold coins. The elf stank of magic, which probably explained why Geoffrey the inventor was half-hiding behind a counter, shaking with nerves or fear.

It probably didn't help that a half-ogre with a huge axe strapped to his back had just walked in and was now heading towards him.

The elf looked up at Drub as he passed, covering his gold protectively with his hands. Drub grunted noncommittally and proceeded towards the cowering inventor.

"Begging your pardon, good sir, but I have a project I need your assistance with. I'll need some tubing, a watertight bladder--oh, and some fuel."

"T-tubing... ba-ba-bladder... f-f-fuel...?" the inventor echoed, stuttering, before promptly passing out.

Drub sighed. Oh well, maybe the dwarves who'd designed the axe really were correct in guaranteeing it'd never run out of fuel.

"Good sir?" he asked, poking the collapsed form of the inventor with a finger.

"Oh, don't mind him," the herbalist said from across the room, looking up from her ministrations. "I'll get some smelling salts to wake him up when I'm done with this one, though it might be a while."

"He seems to be resting comfortably," Drub replied, in case she needed the reassurance. "Perhaps I will leave and return another day? I have to enquire about town for employment."

With a smirk on my face I looked up at the leaving half-ogre “If you’re looking for employment maybe you should try the city guard. I'm sure there short a few people now with those things roaming the streetsâ€￾
