Feel free to copy this ship if you can afford it! :D

Also, check out the TDZK forum which I moderate on the Temple of Aozos Forum.

It contains hints/tips/advice, as well as my current ship stats, and info on our alliance that you might find nice to know.

You want to be a HoLer?! Well do ya?! PUNK!

    Hey, it's Rosie!

To everyone who's registered a TDZK account and wants to be a TA:HoLer, you need to login and click the "Alliance" link on the left hand panel. Once there, you'll have to scroll through the list of alliances to find ours. Since we're still small, we might or might not be on the first page and you'll have to look for a link on the bottom of the page that will "show other alliances" or something like that. Either way, the fastest way to scan through is to hit CTRL+F to bring up the "Find" box and search for "Sheriff".

You'll need to PM me or Sheriff for the password so that you can join. Once you're in Message Sheriff so he can deal you out some cash to get your ship set up.

All alliances with 3 members or above are shown. Only really tiny, weak alliances with 2 or 1 person in them are not shown.

    And Hi Rosie! :wavey:

    NEWS UPDATE:

Relations with our hosting company have taken a turn for the worse, and TDZK is once again faced with serious financial problems due to our large use of bandwidth. We will be posting more extensive information on this soon, but it is very clear that TDZK will have to change it's current circumstance to survive. As such, we are issuing a call for help.Any players who know of a good hosting company (which allows for monthly bandwidth usage over 400 GB), or possible other things that might help TDZK out are encouraged to send an email to jerle@tdzk.net

We are also looking for better advertising services which might allow us to generate more money, or possibly even a corporate sponsor. Any any all help or information you can provide will be of great assistance.TDZK will most likely be down a large portion of Sunday, possibly longer while we figure out what to do.
Please keep use of the web board to a minimum as well, so we don't have to turn it off. It's a rather dark day for TDZK, but we are hoping to find a satisfactory solution soon. ~TDZK Staff.

It sounds like they might get back online later, so keep an eye on it today or tomorrow. I expect someone will post here if it comes back up.

Yeah - I'll keep you updated if noone else posts first. I'm checking it roughly every 2 hours to see if it's running again.

Also, just for a bit of fun, DU made a nice-looking ship that, although not as practical as mine for people like who are relatively low level and poor, makes for an extremely powerful ship.

Please note there are two versions - DU's origninal (bold) and the one that I have made a few changes to (Italics) in order to massively increase it's power! :D

Also note, that they are Zallun ships, and thus are unattainable to other people like me, who have to spend an obscenely larger amount of credits to get the same specifications.

The Lothaudus - Level 205 Zallun Battleship
    -----
    2 x Targeting Computer
    2 x Primary Hardpoint
    5 x Main Engine
    10 x Manoeuvrability
    4 x Power Generator
    2 x Power Battery
    5 x Armour Integrity
    1 x Armour Upgrade
    3 x Shield Battery
    -----
    Scanners
    Subspace Jump Drive
    Internal Repair Module
    Grooved Slugs
    -----
1 x Triad Plasma Projectile Weaver
    3 x 120mm Sabot Cannon
    2 x Cyclone Flak Cannon
    2 x Cluster Bomb (20)
    2 x Resonance Rift Missile (20)
    2 x Heavy Mortar (10)

Ship Analysis - Level 205 Zallun Battleship
    -----
    Rating: 136/30

    Speed : 10 Manoeuvreability : 20
    CDrones : 0 Shields : 1000
    Armour : 2000 Power : 500
    AI : 20

    Self Rates
    Power Recharge Rate :205
    Shield Recharge Rate :205
    Armour Repair Rate :25

    Damage per attack round (Min/Max)
    Drones: 29/56
    Shields: 757/1126
    Armour: 1009/1482

*Your IRM generates all the weapons power your need in combat
*Your ship can regenerate 63 shields per combat turn

    Total: $ 5,133,725,404

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK. DU - I've had time to reassess your ship now. Skip the power upgrades and get an IRM instead. Also forget the targetting computers, as they are pointless at high levels and don't increase your stats by much anyway.

Also, don't forget that Battleships can only have 3 equipment slots!

It's a good thing you're Zallun, as you save loads on uprgades!!!

Anyway, here is my revised opinion of your ship:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Battleship
    -----
    1 x Primary Hardpoint
    5 x Main Engine
    5 x Drone Hangars
    10 x Manoeuvrability
    5 x Armour Integrity
    1 x Armour Upgrade
    3 x Shield Battery
    -----
    Internal Repair Module
    Subspace Jump Drive
    Grooved Slugs
    -----
    3 x 25mm Gauss Cannon
    1 x Cyclone Flak Cannon
1 x Triad Plasma Projectile Weaver
    2 x Fusion Mortar (5)
    4 x Fusion Torpedo (1)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The Lothaudus
    -----
    Zallun Battleship
    Level 205
    Rating: 245/35

    Speed: 10
    Manoeuvrability: 20

    Drones: 50
    Shields: 1000
    Armour: 2000
    Power: 300

    Damage per attack round (Min/Max)
    Drones 164/341
    Shields 1254/2368
    Armour 812/2456

*Your IRM generates all the weapons power your need in combat
*Your ship can regenerate 63 shields per combat turn
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Cost = 5,116,761,655 credits
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see - I've manage to boost your rating by an obscene amount, and still keep the cost the same.

Your minimum armour damage rating is down slightly, but the maximum is increased by quite a lot. All the other stats are increased.

As a bonus, all of your weapons are now much more accurate (by about +30) so you should get better shots in. The average critical rating is also up.

    400 gigs a month? And they're hosted?!

Shit... With that kind of transfer, they'd need a colocated or dedicated server. No wonder it was so damn slow.

Just as I was getting hooked, too. Oh well. My predicition is that they're either going to close up shop or they're going pay-to-play. 400 gigs a month of transfer is a huge bill. I can't see them ever setting up an advertising program that would cover the bandwidth cost. No way. Especially not with that 1 popup when you login and those lame-o Russian Bride banners on every page.

Let's cross our fingers and hope they can get something going. I doubt it, but there's always a chance.

Is there any other similiar free game out there that we all can join? If we can find one, then we can all start off in the same alliance rather than a split one. I'll have a look around and see what I can find.

I sent Jerle a mail suggesting he approaches the MMORPGs that are in alpha or beta. If any of them have their hosting infrastructure in place already, or part of it, they might go for the opportunity of having a userbase of online games players as a captive advertising audience.

Pay-to-play sounds the most likely, though. They'll lose a lot of players, which will bring their transfer rates down.

They should also consider looking at their technical architecture to see if they can cut down on the amount of data download that is required. All those refreshes must be putting in a lot of redundant data to be downloaded.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, Notharah. PhpBB is just forum software.

I think TDZK would be better if it was a text only interface. All those thousands of people with their 10-20k animated banners is just wasted bandwidth. A simple text tag that states your alliance, your name, and your ship would suffice.

Popup context screens with text rather than graphics would also go a long way to reducing bandwidth costs. How much of a hit does their server take when we're docked at a port and we have to switch to the sector map screen and refresh constantly to see what commodities are trading where? It would be so much more effective if we could click on a "resources/port" link on the side panel which opened up a text popup that listed ports in that system and what resources they are trading.

While it's true that a text only interface wouldn't look as nice as the current one, it would be faster and cheaper. I for one am not a big fan of the current interface anyway.

The images used on the resources map wouldn't make much difference to the bandwdith, since they'd be cached after the first time you hit the page anyway. There aren't many other images used on the site (other than tags). It's pretty much text and style formatting, I think.

You're dead right about popups, though. Downloading the whole page constantly is such a waste of bandwidth (and time). If the don't want popup windows, they could use iframes on the page and only refresh those.

I wonder how much bandwidth they could save this way. Quite a lot, I would guess, when you think of all the page downloads that tripping around the systems involves.

Here's a few other online games I found. The only one that looks similiar to TDZK is Black Nova Traders. I saw this one advertised on TDZK!

    Black Nova Traders - http://blacknova.net/
-It's kind of hard to navigate the page. It's tough to find out how to join. From what I can tell so far, you have to click one of the "game" links. Then on the next screen click "Log In", then "new player". From there, you hit a registration screen. That's as far as I went.

    Utopia - http://games.swirve.com/utopia/
-You're in charge of an empire. You try to increase the size of your land by attacking, trading, etc. Sounds to me like alot of other trading type games, except it's in a fantasy setting.

    eDrugTrader - http://edrugtrader.dyndns.org/rules.php
-Pimps and Hos. You rob people and sell drugs. Sounds to me like pimpwars, except I haven't heard anything about eDrugTrader's system being broken. Pimpwars had something where you could use funds to buy turns or something like that, and new people were basically screwed so they might as well not even try.

    Imperial Conflict - http://www.imperialconflict.com/
-I was wrong about Black Nova Traders being the only TDZK-like game I found. This one is also a Space Trader type game.

So, anyone interested in checking these out, post it here in this thread. If enough of us agree, we can all get something going there while we wait for TDZK to come back (if ever).

I've taken a brief look at BNT, IC, and Utopia.

BNT seems the most like TDZK. The other two look like they have more of an empire-building bias in the game play. BNT wins for me on this point, since I like the trading thing.

BNT looks the least polished. I'm not sure how important it is, but you can't help prefering stuff that has a layout that has been put together well. I would say that Utopia has the best look, but then they played some music on their description page, which is just plain idiotic. Especially cheesey, bad music like that rubbish.

I'm interested in all three, I suppose, but think I would prefer Black Nova Traders.

    What about everyone else?
