I know what you mean about Jayna.

Jayna eventually becomes a great follower, but a big part of that is she can make stuff for you. If you were to go ahead and go to Tarant first (like you're clearly supposed to), that might severely limit Jayna's value as both a healer and a source of useful items.

I have created technologist characters where my entire master plan revolved around using Jayna's Therapeutics skills to make up for my character's physical shortcomings. When your roleplaying and everything depends so much on using her tonics to boost your Dexterity and Perception, making a beeline for Dernholm is about the only thing you really can do.

Sure, creating a Miracle Operation gunslinger and then using Jayna to help you focus on other things instead of improving your crappy stats first is pretty much cheating. But still, if you have a good backstory in your head for a character who wouldn't see any problem with using drugs like that after going through all sorts of crazy procedures to restore his sight... doesn't that become a justifiable roleplaying thing?

That's a good justification! In fact a miracle operation character's first priority is very likely to be a personal physician.

Besides which, it's a fantasy game; its function is to entertain. It's a single player game; anything you want is acceptable. Any amount of cheating, modding or metagaming is consistent with the spirit of the game.

Arcanum remains a land of change... a land of possibility.

My point was that there is no fate point to squeeze out of Arbalah, so saying that there is such a possibility means either being misguided or intentionally misguiding.

I'm gonna have to go with misguided, since I got the idea you could get a Fate Point by exploring other dialogue options with Arbalah from a walk-through I read.

You don't happen to have a link to that walkthrough, by any chance?

I'm trying to track down the right one. So far, all I've been able to find were ones with accurate information. I could have sworn the UHS hint guide said something like that, but I turned out to be mistaken (it's wrong about some other quests, so that seemed like the first place to check).

At this point, I may have to just admit that I've been confused for a long time.
