Well, if 12 can be called a horde, then maybe the ring one is a dozen men, which means the rubber one could be ... nah, the 30 boughs just wouldn't fit ...

The only thing that I can figure for the rubber tree one is a calendar...

not exactly 30 "boughs" per tree, but in that vicinity...

Just do what everyone else does and use google to look up the answer. Just make sure not to make my mistake of saying you used google though.

They'd be some pretty dang weird rubber trees is what they'd be.

    12 rubber trees.
    30 boughs on each.

    bough Pronunciation Key (bou)
A tree branch, especially a large or main branch.

    360 rubber tree branches?
    360 degrees in a circle?

A rubber tree farm? It might be a rubber tree farm. Did I get it right? It only says I have to tell you what they *might* be and they *might* be a rubber tree farm.

    Answer for this one:
A hoard of rings am I,
    but no fit gift for a bride;
    I await a sword's kiss.

    chainmail

And Luchaire, you are in right direction, but that didn't give the answer, yet.

    Then perhaps it's a year.

And DU I doubt it everyone googles for answer. What's the point if you just find it?

None of my answers have been looked up.

Anyone else out there doing a closet DU, should give it up before they spoil our fun. If you can't resist looking an answer up, don't post it.

I assume Gambit and RiddleMaster are looking up riddles, but that seems pretty reasonable to me, at least

    *gains 1000 experience*

I did think that the only thing which could fit the numbers 12 and 30 would be a calendar - but I don't get the rubber part of it.

Yeah, stop looking up answers. That spoils it man. I haven't looked up my answers. (Both of them. )

Rubber trees are a leap year. Probably not. But......best I could do on short notice.

I've heard it before! In fact I think Baldur's Gate used that riddle in Bodhi's maze.

the answer is "a fish", it's just that it's a bit off because fishes DO breathe, just through gills.

It's the third-person conjugated inflection of the verb "to fish".

sorry to burst your bubble, but here's the lowdown on fish as a countable noun from Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, Fifth Edition pg. 440&441:

Two well-timed corrections :) , but wouldn't "fish" still be more fitting than "fishes" in that particular sentence? It's just "fish" as in "all fish breathe", it's not describing a particular species, it's more using the general word for "a fish" in it's plural form, hence it should be just "fish".

    :-?

Hmm. I should probably stop now, i'm in too deep already :)

Thanks for that. I see that English is goinng the same route as Polish. Basically you have a correct&incorrect form and lately you very often find out that nowadays both are acceptable even though your teacher broke more than one baeball bat trying to while putting it in your head which one's correct and which one causes pain.

but Dragoon asked "What's fishes?, meaning he disputed the existence of the word itself, not the usage. I guess I should have said "fish" though.

actually, the dictionary I used was given to me way back in '95. And I do think that by the way the definition is given, fishes is something very specific, not a product of today's "anything goes" English. Haven't really kept myself updated on how Polish is doing lately .

Back to the topic... can we have the answer to the rubber riddle already? I can't stand the suspense.

Months in a year? There's 12 months and each month has 30 days.

"Thirty white horses on a red hill,
    first they champ,
    then they stamp,
    then they stand still."
