    Random fact update:

After being inspired by all the people who quit smoking, I decided "What the hell? Why wait 'til New Year's? Now's as good a time as any."

So this morning, I solemnly threw my pack in the garbage (there's $4.50 I could spent elsewhere  ). "Good riddance!" I said, vowing that this time... *choked with emotion* This time I would see it through. For myself, for my friends, dammit for the starving children and the cute little woodland creatures of the world.

    Then I had lunch.

    Then I shook.

Then I dove into the garbage for my cigs.

Then I lit one and held myself as I crouched in the corner, crying, savoring every drag. It was then that I vowed to keep on smoking even if I had to insert the cigarette directly into my cancer-induced neck hole ala the anti-smoking advertisements.

    My lungs =

    I am a dirty bastard.

after smoking 3 years, quitting was hell. it was everyday cigarette fantasies for 3 months. And I mean EVERYDAY. my mouth had a taste like donkey sweat. I even now after 1.5 years sometimes have a strong "I need to smoke" sensation. But only sometimes. ohh I remember how good it felt... Oh boy, the fantasies are setting in again.
and wow 4.5 bucks!? over here thay cost 1.5$
and I mean the most expnsive ones. I guess thats what you get for a low social income.

Hmm ... I can't help but feel my contribution to the wreck you have become.

Maybe I should have pointed out in my earlier blase claim to have "Given up last year" that I preceded it with a 3 month strategy of cutting down and making a point of telling my friends/family at every opportunity that I was giving up (hoping to increase the potential embarrassment of failing and therefore apply some much needed pressure).

Even with this well considered attempt to outwit myself, I only managed to give up when not in bars or offered an oily at work. The rest of my giving up has involved avoiding bars and being fortunate that the staff our company had to shed included all the real smokers. Only now (over a year later) am I really starting to feel a bit safer.

Prior to this attempt I tried just throwing my smokes away about a gazillion times and always ended up going on a binge when I quietly failed.

EDIT: sorry, Jinxed just caught your post. A pack of 20 here is £4.50. Now THAT's a hefty price

My mum started smoking again recently. She just bought a couple of packs, my brother found them, and now they are in a place she will never think about, and will not be able to access .

I'm on Wellbutrin right now. It's an anti-depressant, but THEY discovered that it had the odd side effect of making cigarettes taste like s**t. You keep taking the pills for a couple weeks -- smoke as usual during that time -- pick a stopping date, and just quit.
Well, this stuff has me bouncing off the walls, I can't sleep (can you tell by how many times I post?) and my stop date was a complete failure. I'm going crazy here, people. I think it might be healthier (mentally) for me to just keep on smoking.

I gave up smoking years ago. It's just a pretty dumb thing to do all round really, and I just grew out of it after my teenage years.

Sheriff Fatman - if you come down to the King's Head on December 16th, you can see me playing in a band! Now there's an offer a troll can't refuse...

I smoke, so I guess I`m dumb!

And I`ll drink about a litre of coffe for breakfast today, no other breakfast or solid food until 5/6 o'clock this evening. Then I`ll eat so much I`ll just lie bloated on the couch infront of the TV drinking coffe or beer, smoking like a chimny on fire for the duration of the evening.

People only ever start smoking from peer-pressure. Anyone who claims different is wrong, a liar or not very honest with themselves.

I started as a kid because many of my friends smoked, and regreted for about my last 10 years as a smoker.

Reg, I can practically see the King's Head from my house. What's the name of your band? I'll probably show up to give you some moral support and bring Lysa too. She's WAY into music and loves to see bands live.

to sum it all up you people are all stinky smokers!!! With the exception of 3 people (myself included) Now that are not very good statistics.
sheriff: I started smoking because a girl I liked very much did, I went out with her for some time, but then it never really went anywhere, the smoking stayed though.

Not at all - it sounds like a grin.

Now, though I have two impediments (new buzz word for me now that I am getting married) of which I was previously unaware. First, Lysa reminded me that we were supposed to be seeing Stereolab that night. Second, we just booked our wedding date for 17th, so we may not have time to do any gigs on 16th.

Do you have any other London gigs lined up?
