Hmm....have no idea about how to get to that Portal, but I'll give it the ol college try!

Come to think of it, my Map could be bugged as I have noticed that one location is missing its name. Its a small house with a necromancer with a Lava Chakram (or something like that) and a whole load of Bludgeoners in a room downstairs.

Given the high difficulty settings I chose...its taking me a while to win even some of the more normally trivial battles...which is a good thing to a certain extent.

Thus far, I have found explosives to be my best friend although its a bit of a pian in the ass gathering the components all the time.

I tiook a few of the regular NPCs on a "internship" and got half of them killed......magnus I left naked in from of schylers cos he just annoys me with his faux-morality!

Can you tell me if any of the towns, apart from Shrouded Hills, have had any significant new additions? I've had a look through most of them but didn't notice that much of a difference.

"Sometimes, in order to go forward, you must go backward, Grasshopper"

Do you happen to remember the shack at the crash site? Beyond that I don't want to spoil it for you.

And if your map is bugged then so is mine - The place you are speaking of is the old prison, and it doesn't show on my map either. Oh, well. Unless you are at level 35 or have dealt with the Assassins Village and won the friendship of the wandering merchants, try doing a back and forth grid search - never know what you might find...

As for the NPCs, yes they can be a pain, but I've learned how to work within their constraints, so large parties is how I play. If nothing else, then for the carrying capacity. :D
I do tend to empty a place...

Modified towns? To start with there is Tarant. Chris installed a back way out - behind the university - and a new weapons shop south of the Boil. Be advised, the merchant there has great weapons, but he charges too much and is a cheap-skate on buying. Beyond that, all I've been able to find so far is a shack south of Black Root where the local fence lives. And there is a new building at Roseborough. You get to find out what's there....

Speaking of buying - can you get the Spirited Stone or wandering merchants to buy anything from you? I have never once been able to do that.

    Thanks again for the tip!

No joy on the wandering merchants either....cheap bastards they are IMHO! :p

I figure I could nab a few more NPCs.....although I'm pissed I let Spot die so early on in the game....:p

Back when the Permanancy Trick worked I once had the Stillwater Beat as my forced follower....Itwas awesome.....

One thing I've been thinking about is that some of the new quests and things raen't really linked to the general Arcanum storyline...save for maybe the Siamese Twin continuation which sorta had a better ending...but not that much....

With the possibility of returning from the Void....is it possible to bring back the three exiles with you? (I'd like to take Bane back to Kree for a laugh :p)

Do you find that the Charms that were added to thegame add anything substantial to the gameplay, in light of the space they usually take up?

OK - Since I'm not alone with the Wandering Merchants being cheap, that'll be the next modification I attempt. Still no joy on the new DAT at the moment, although I did see something in the unpacked DATs that may be the source of my problem. Round three coming up!

As for a new follower - have you been to Ashbury yet? You can get a second dog there if you are quick enough. Or go to Dernholm (you will need lockpicking skills!) and enter the Pit through the backdoor and possibly get Tollo Underhill. He's level 30. You can find the backdoor by going to the back of the General Store and heading more or less westward from there. It looks like the passage from the elven tomb.

As for the exiles, I, personally, have never tried to, and nothing I have read to date has ever said anyone has managed it. They just don't trust each other. Good luck though - maybe you'll be the first. Fair warning though - if you bring Kergan back, there are two endings. 1 - everyone dies, including you. 2- Kergan turns on you, you kill him, and become the last living thing in the world. Looking for solitude?

The charms - the only ones I am fond of is the chakram-looking electrical resistance ones. For the help they give (minimum resistance set at 75%) they have helped me through many dungeons. But even those come back out of the inventory as soon as possible. The rest bug me because of the massive weight and or size. I sell what I can and ditch the rest. I supposed that if I played a wider range of characters, I might find uses for some of the others, but not the way I do now.

Cool....trying the silver terminator quest now but thpse corridors are too damm long if you askme...but the fights are challenging enough....I'm doing what I can to sacrifice a few of the shittier NPCs (heheh).

I'm pretty much gonna stick with Althea, Virgil, Helena and Arbalah (forgot he was available now too).

The weapons shop was ok...but expensive as hell...still no luck with te steam engines....gotta sleep more so the randomness kicks in :p

Funny...ever since I installed Car Arcanum I've had very few encounters with the Molochean hand and with the band of wandering orcs. Is that normal?

Yeah, those corridors do tend to run on don't they? And then there's all those @#!!%&* stacked traps! If you ever want to risk getting an ulcer, try getting a large party past those without any damage. :/

I forgot about Arbalah too. Of course, I didn't like his terms so I never bothered with him. BTW - from what I've read of your posts, you're playing an evil character - how are you keeping Althea and Helena from hating you? Any time my alignment drops below twenty, they are just about ready to leave the group.

The wilderness encounters with the Hand and orcs do seem to be less frequent in this game, but as you are playing in hard mode that should have triggered more encounters. Odd.

OH! Before I forget - I took a good long look at the other DATs last night. There was only one mention for anaesthitizers listed. So I went back to my inventory hack and added them to the herbilist and the Molochean Hand. That seems like something an assassin would carry. Then I got a little crazy and upped the percentage level on the treasure chests to 50%.
As a hack it works, but I still have a problem with it as a DAT.

Would you be interested in a hack that overloads you with treasure but does cause the Helena Sent/lockpick problem?

Actually I'm not playing evil...more like a "could give a f..." attitude as far as my followers go. I'm really just using a half-uber character just so I can see what's new in the mod. I keep Helena and Althea in check with my high beauty and charisma.

Arbalah is alright as a follower...although to be honest I can't see any significant difference in his fighting as far as day/night goes.

That hack sounds pretty good...i'd be willing to give it a try!

One thing that I think is sorely needed in the game is some item that will let you tame any wild animal and make it your follower, kinda like control beast only without the animal hating you for it.....I'd like to have a few bears in my party from time to time....maybe even a monkey :p

(kind reminds me of the time I created a "freaks" team with myself as the only Human, Gar, The Stillwater Beast, the Lethe Wyvern, The Temporal Crusher. That was fun....)

Here's a Hack that would be cool....something lets you repair broken arachnids and automatons....or some sort of "Magic Barrells" where you can place an item in one and it will duplicate or triplicate the item in the other. That way you could produce extra items that are normally hard to find....ie. Minute Steamworks, Boat rigs and Long Bows.

Is there anything else (storywiseline) on Althea....I mean she's okay thus far, a bit annoying with her inventory but otherwise ok?

Still trying to figure out the pigs :p

Ah, so that's your secret... High beauty.

As for the hack, I'll get it bundled up and post it ASAP.

For some different followers, here's an idea - use the hemp leaves on a hell beast or a bear. They will still hate you but be helpless not to follow you. Just a thought...

The duplication idea is already in the game, but only for stacked items - i.e bullets, gold, arrows, batteries. You'll need to browse all the way back to some of the oldest posts, page 82 or 83 to find it, but there's a wonder cheat to duplicate the items using any chest or barrel.

As for darling little Althea - have you discovered that she likes diamonds, or lava rocks? How about the other items she will accept? Bandages, heartstone, geodes, magic rings, diamond necklaces, or that fairly early on she can use a Warbringer? Have you also noticed that Potions of Haste seem to appear from nowhere in her inventory? Just let her collect her herbs - It's some kind of secret with her.

Now here's an idea that I use a lot. If you try to give her something like Restore Life or anti-gravity bread, she'll refuse it. What you do is have the rest wait, take just her a ways away from the group, then drop the item you want her to carry. With the noteworthy exception of the anti-gravity diamonds, she will pick up anything. That's how I manage to load her up for the adventures. Six bandages, two Restore Life, 1 bread, 1000 rounds of ammo, and the best gun I can afford at that time. I do have to get that big sword away from her until I can get a Warbringer and definately remove all those boomarangs she keeps finding.

Aside from that, make sure the other guy swings first and she'll follow you anywhere and take the least amount of damage.

So she's somewhat of an item wizkid huh....

    must try stuff out then....

Gotta get me more hemp leaves now :p

I found a reall good way to deal heavy damage to tough critters:

    A combination of:

Paralysis Grenade or KnockOut Gas or Entangle or Magelock or Bear Trap (or anything that holds the dumb sunbitch in place) folowed by a tactical placement of dynamite or plastique.

In fact, I loveusing plastique and would use it more were it not so hard to find :p

    Help is on the way.
Check the downloads section about 9:30 p.m., your time, tomorrow. Assuming I don't mess up, the hack should be ready to go.

    AWESOME!

And it won't bugger up the Car Arcanum mod in any way?

It does have three small problems.

    1) Does not work well with established games. The save file has the merchants' inventory at one level and you would suddenly be adding a completely different one. Start a new game or don't be surprised at the naked merchants.

    2) Triggers the Helena Sent/lockpick snafu. Sometimes you go to pick a lock and your whole party is screaming at you for attacking a friend. Either don't use Helena or have her wait at least 10 squares away.

    3) Random chance for timidity in one of your followers. i.e. (And I've actually seen this.) Sogg; level 30, electro armor, Sword of Sickness, Quality Shield; running from a sewer rat (Level 3).

Beyond that I've have yet to find any problems with the hack. Only with the DAT.

P.S. How do you upload something here? This forum is quite a bit different than the previous one I was at. I can't seem to find the upload button anywhere.

Hmmm...good question...never quite did that myself to be honest but you could always upload to something like MegaUpload or Rapidshare for the sake of getting the file up.

Maybe if you ask in the Modding Support forum they can help you out.

BTW, I decided to give Silver Terminator thing another go....got Vollinger and Magnus Killed, butf what the heck..they were low-lev cos I ignored them early on. Anyways,

Between the stacked traps (very annoying) and the long corridors and the resistant monsters I'm making very little progress.

I'm almost thinking about leaving the rst of the party behind and loading up on grenades, lots and lots of mana and going postal down there.

BTW, it isn't possible to use explosives to disarm traps is it?

You know - I've never tried the explosives. If it did work that would be fantastic. It would be nice to be able to clear an entire section at once.

So far, I gave the disarm spell a couple of tries then gave up and did it the old-fashioned way. As many times as I played the game, for fun and testing, I think I'm developing carpal tunnel from all those traps.

As for going solo into the main chamber before you reach the Silver Terminator - not a good idea... I know what's waiting there.

LOL! Alright....maybe I'll just conjure up followers or Dominate Will a few to get there...

I Wonder if I could spring traps with a Clockwork Decoy.....

If you decide to do serious item hacking, here are a few suggestion:

    - Rust Grenade (creates a cloud of reddish gas that does no damage to the character (unless its an automaton) and eats away at armor and weepaons and other worn metal object)

    - Stun Gun (stuns tagert so your followers can have a field day).

    - Disentegrate Gun (and the munchkin game begins)

    - Genetic Gun (turns your target into harmless heep)

Well - you can use a clockwork decoy, but one good mechanical trap will destroy it. I like your ideas for the stun gun and desintegrator - except this is Arcanum not Star Trek!

    BTW: Check your private meaasges.

    Update:

Like I said in my PM...I got the Silver Terminator alright and here are a few things I found:

    - In Kree, there was another weapon, similar to Tesla Rifle butit had no name...it had higher dmg than the regular tesla rifle, but not as much as the ST.

    - The Mechanical Decoys indeed proved their worth, steeing off about 10 traps a piece, sparing me the damage and bother.

    - For the rest of the traps, I used a combination of Still Water Blade Summoned Wolves, A few Guardian Ogre scrolls and Disarm Traps....

    - I still left a few baddies in there but I plan on remedying that real soon..

    - Whats the new Building in Ashbury you were talkiing about? I had a quick look around but didn't find much.

It's either been too long or my mind is going.

If memory serves, when we were talking about new places, I mentioned a new shack in Black Root. You can find it by going south from the arrival point, past the hedgewizard, and out into the world a ways.

As for Ashbury, the location I mentioned as a possible for hemp leaves is the closest farm to the cemetary.

BTW - Did you ever try an explosive grenade on the traps?

Yeah I tried the grenade but it did not knock out the traps....but the funny thing was that my followers all went to try to attack the tracp and ended up getting sliced!

Funny thing happened in the big room where the ST is....I cleraed about half of the traps in the final corridor and saw that there were a few nasty baddies in there...so what did I do.....I threw a grenade over there and "lured" them towards me....half of them got destoryed by the traps....real real funny.

One thing I never quite undertasoood was why they never made schamtics so you could make other types of traps lik ethe one's in the game.

I mean I can see that making the Disarm Trap and the Timelock trap being tricky on account of possibly having to know the spelll.....

    but surely something like:

Spike Trap + Strong Poison = Poison Trap

Spike Trap+ Blow = arrow Trap

Spike Trap + Hand Crafted Flintlock = Bullet Trap

Spike Trap + Explosive Grenade = Explosive trap

Spike Trap + FIre Obstruction = Firewall trap

Thanks for the heads up on the explosives. And luring the enemy into his own traps is something I've got to try more often. I hate it when you get to the end of the corridor, just two more rows to clear, and suddenly your party takes off after the bad guy. That bites!

Oh! Speaking of traps!!! In the Arena, in the far southwest corner, do not try to go through there!!! There is one electrical trap close to the fence that can wipe out 200 + points at a time. Even with electro-armor, most NPCs die at that point. Besides, there's no loot to be had in that corner - just more things to kill.

And I love your ideas for new schematics. Maybe when....

However - I can't help but think someone should rework a couple of the spells. Sense Hidden to reveal all traps in a given area at once at once and Disarm to disarm all that are revealed. Or am I asking too much?
