Is this pre patch, by any chance? Because I tried this, at your suggestion, and she went hostile, and Magnus quit the party... (Dunno why; I haven't done anything evil yet and my alignment is about 98...)

The trick is to kill her so she wouldn't take offense. Don't plant the dynamite at HER, plant it NEAR her, at the fire, or at the cat that is wandering around :) This way the kill is "accidental".

I tried planting it near her. No go. Set it on the dog, no go. Maybe I should try it with someone other than the one in Tarant.

Strange. How close to her do you stand when you do it? I plant it when she's on the edge of my sight, so she wouldn't see me.

Er... How close do you have to be to set it? ... Maybe thats the problem. I'll try it...

Just walk away as far as you can without loosing eye contact with the Wise woman. When she is seen on the very edge of the screen, stop and set the charge.

darn it! you're all wrong! the easiest way to get a renewable source of money is to enter a shop, gain access to the shopkeepers bedroom, and advance time to night. then uicksave and pickpocket the sleeping shopkeeper, for rittsze the chance is about 50/50 so just quicksave after every success, just make sure you have a back up save in case you mash the save button instead of the load button when you fail and the shopkeep wakes up and attacks. i left the first town with 14,000 gold and a ton of nice stuff at the begining of the game and no one hated me more that they did when i entered the town.

<edit> i'd like to add that they also will gain money back automatically over a period of time, so you still have their services available, and get more money overall.

How "well" does that work with a character possessing no pickpocketing skills?

it works perfectly, i've never put a single point into pickpocketing, but it till works because you get a pretty big bonus in the skill when pickpocketing a sleeping person. plus i'm pretty sure when alculating your chance of success it also figures in your intelligence and dexterity, so the pickpocket skillitself isnt the only factor.

but trust me, it works for everyone.

This trick only works on Ristizze. No other shopkeeper has the key from his shop chest on his person. Some have keys from the shop's front door- but that's it.

Tell your companions to wait somewhere completely out of sight. Set the dynamite. Run like hell as far away as you can get. come back in 30 seconds. She should be dead and your companions won't be pissed, since they didn't see anything.

i didnt mention the part about steeling his key, you can pick pocket anyone while they're asleep, and you can sneek into any shopkeeper's bedroom even if hes staring right at you. its just easier with rittse because you can steal his key, with the other shopkeepers just keep quick saving every time you successfully pickpocket him/her, and reloading when you fail its a lot slower, but its less aggressive and doesnt piss everyone off quite as easily.

Well, if you don't plant the dynamite directly on her, she shouldn't know it was you. Maybe try putting it behind her so she doesn't see you do it. Or do it invisible.

I'll say I have no idea if this would work. I was just trying to help you use Solaris's idea. I know he plays unpatched for some bizarre pride-related reason, so maybe that's why it works for him.

Give it a shot. If it doesn't work, well, sorry, you'll just have to rasie money the way you were supposed to, i.e. adventuring and thieving.

Or burn fate points or reloads to steal shopkeeper keys. There are other ways to get money.

Dunno what else to say, except that I was never short on cash after about level 20.

Actually, I wasn't short on money once I started llooking at prices (too many other RPGs where potions cost an arm and three legs were stuffed in my head). Untill now, when I need to buy a ship and am rather short on cash... I failed my haggle check (!) despite my masters status and am stuck at 50K gold. I'm going to reload and hope that last time was a fluke (maybe because I was drunk or something without realizing it...).

You want to BUY a ship??? Wouldn't it be more beneficial to acquire it for free from a certain dead pirate (who can also be robbed of Arcane helm, shield and sword)?

Yeah, seriously, the $50k pricetag is designed specifically to give you an alternative you don't want so you go do the other quest. There are three solutions to getting a ship. A certain captain friend of your will enlighten you as to their identity. Basically, there's one for thieves ($50k gold, since thieves are so rich), one for gambling diplomats, and one for adventurers, whihc we should alll be be, no?

By t he way, you cannot haggle the price down from 50k. You can't talk him down in any way. It's supposed to be prohibitively high.

Also, if you're a master at haggle (why???), you should be rich as shit. My first time through as a warrior who had a little llockpick skill, I bought the ship straight off before I realized the alternatives. I had no haggle skill. I had more money than I knew what to do with. I think haggle is a waste of CPs, unless you are doing it for roleplayng reasons.

I was a haggle master because I needed the money for my Mage's Stave ollection -- not to mention potions, selling items to all venders (only needed expert, but I already had the WP...), and the occasional "donation" to officialdom (not very many in this game, but I did need it occasionally). Besides - I usually spent my time half-broke (maybe because I couldn't find all the sidequests?) and could use the extra money anyways.

Oh, and I could haggle him down to 25K. Not much better, but I managed it.

As far as Stringy Pete goes... I'm not certain I liked the idea of helping him. For once I felt a little vindictive (unusual for me... I normally redeem people left and right if I can).

Now, if I knew about how to rob the sword / robe / helm, I probably would have engaged Petey boy.
