Sorry guys, but for once I'm replying without reading the thread properly (I should be working), so this may duplicate other comments.

    My wish list includes:

    • Better multiplayer: (good enough to become popular)
    • Better engine: one that runs more smoothly
    • Better Character Progression including
      • a level cap that comes into play during the end-game, rather than mid-game
      • more skills
      • more Fallout-esque level advancement (dare I say PERKS), since CP's didn't quite do it for me
      • more interesting char background system (ditto, TRAITS)

You can change the current backgrounds if you don't like them, or create your own. If you want Fatman, I can send you my modified backgrounds (I've changed one preset one, and added in like 7 backgrounds).

That would be a good start, but I also meant, more backgrounds that do something other than change a stat up or down.

Well, my backgrounds reduce and add to the followers count, change reactions, add damage resistance etc, as well as some 'stat-trading'. I think they are pretty well balanced though.

I say to hell with it. Make it more like Fallout. Period.

I loved Arcanum on it's own terms, but was let down in that I thought it would be a refinement of the Fallout character system.

    • I didn't like the idea of predefined backgrounds, or relying on these predefined backgrounds to change my stats. A refinement of the Fallout system would be to let the user set his stats the way they want them (including subtracting from base stats.) Then rather than forcing people to roleplay a pre-written BG, the user can type their own background into a text-field. This would make the actual role playing more gratifying.
    • Go back to turn-based only, and give us some control over the NPCs. I don't mean total Final Fantasy type control. Just general directions like, "If I'm standing directly in front of you, then please do not fire arrows into the back of my head," or, "Use your offensive spells, not your fists, dumbass." More like Fallout 2, in other words.
    • PERKS!!!
That's all I can think of right now, gameplay wise...

Another thing I'd like to see is a system by which techies can make their own items. Ones not on found or learned schematics. By randomly combining certain items, the techie can create something surprising and new. This would add alot to the fun of being a techie, the ability to experiment in-game, rather than race for the next "level" of technology.

Yeah, there was a thread about combining items a few months back on the Sierra board.

As I said there, I think the experimentation angle would definitely be the way to go.

 You have the best avatar on that whole board, man.

I forgot all about that place. I haven't been there for months. I miss my little "Made Man" avatar... (hint hint, Jinxed.)*

about the prewuel that sounds real good cause tech would not get worse it would actually get better cause if u think about the antiend technology....plus combining compnents to make your own tech item would be real cool also combining spell componentes and making your own spell...another cool thing would be combinging tech and magick together and creating really good tech items

ohhh and what did u mean by Ioo and Al going to MIA or whatever it is called

Sorry for the delay, but welcome back Q. A legend walks among us.

My bro tried installing a copy of KUF over the weekend, but it kept crapping out with an unhandled exception. I reckon I'll just have to buy it when I'm done with Civ3.

    What is KUF?

Dammit, why did I have to miss all the Quethim stuff earlier on? I feel so left out ...

Ok guys.. o got kind of a crazy idea here for a sequel...so bear with me.

Right now..arcanum exists in a world of magic threatenend by the impendig doom of technology. It is obvious majic is losing..at leastto me. The spell colleges only have 5 levels insteat of the once eight.. and the cities still clinging to magic (spoiler)... if you beat the game... they reach demise.

Now consider this. Technology does succed and we are now.. deep deep into the future. The theories of supernatural selectin hold true, except now elves are the reclusive one and dwarfs and humans are running the show. We have possible even gone so far as to achieve interstellalr travel...a great way to introduce new races. Now, if you are stilr eading and nto completely appaled. Consider this. *a world of technology...threatened by magic.* The newfound ability to reach shores untouched by technology gives magic a once lost ground. Ancient Elves locked forever in stasis reamerge to joing forces to smite the "filth" of thecnology. Its a complete role reversal. This could add an entire dimention to the story of magic vs technology! The once rustic enviroment is not fururistic. THe possiblities are endless... tell me im wrong!

Not a bad idea. Not bad at all . That's a nice little twist on the world of Arcanum.

Thanks for the feedback  its good to know someone else thinks thats a cool idea too. Me and my friends thought it would be a good idea for a sequel...certainly would allow the sequel to not be a replay of the first one... tovariate some i mean

cheese may be made from cow but...

that prequel thing is cool. the dragon knights could kind of be like the brother hood or some such thing.
i reckon just make certain tech (gun electric. 2-3 ranks) real weak. the techs are new and should be primitive, of course the likes of dynamite is a different story.
why have balance. its called a challenge.

one more thing. get rid of anything to do with a freakin level cap. if you must, make it twice as hard or so to go up a level and give double character pionts and then every 5th level 2cps and a perk. that would be sweet. i always didnt know what to do with about 10 cps. sure every character could have had 20 strength but why.

less dungeon crawling. go more assassin style. i prefered the type of missions in fallout where you could plant explosives on a person and walk out and then laugh as you go up a level for killing the boss guy.

get rid of those sprite things. they just end up dieing and take too long to complete their attacks. damn BG kobalds all over again.

continue after you finish game. i play the game to do the little things and oh i dont no, i just hang out alot doing stuff. i dont go to the void as it just another dungeon crawl. you know if i wanted that i would play diablo.
