    I DEMAND MOAR!

...especially in this thread. That could get, well, wonderfully ironic.

Since we have Jazintha and sometimes Rosenshyne, we don't really need Xiao to be the woman on this forum anyways.

Our ratio is actually out of proportion. Even without Xiao, we still have the same amount of femme regulars on this forum as Bay12 has on theirs, and their regulars constitute 300 people at a time.

EDIT: When Zanza finally gets up to a thousand posts, I say we commemorate him with a Xiao-avatar. Maybe Xiao's avatar as a zombie, or Xiao's gravestone, or even just Xiao's avatar in general so that when she does come back she'll still be aggravated by him.

While Zanza does have the personality required, and only the post count is missing for a custom, I'm not sure about encouraging the semitroll. However I'll agree it's a good suggestion as to what the avatar should be. Suggestion is duly noted. I do suspect the notes will be lost by the time though, so feel free to resuggest it when/if the time comes.

I think this thread has derailed enough already. Posting any more of the Predator porn would only make matters worse. Seriously, enough is enough.

You scare me sometimes Muro, what scares me most is I could of sworn Xz was a blue monkey this morning.

A chain reaction in face of recent events. Both Vorak and Xz has officially left the building.

I'm wondering if Vorak and Xz are solidarizing with Xiao or mocking at her. The line between the two is a thin and indistinct one, especially around here.

Need any spare admins? Huh? Huh?

Nah, your memory fools you, he was a lawn with a bunch of handicapped statues ever since the creation of creation.

That's a shame, I had a hell of a lot more respect for them two than most other forumers

And I take it we wont be hearing any more on the subject? Another shame.

For those of us who are long time members it is not a secret that the House of Lords is a far cry from what it used to be. Many of the key members who used to make entertaining threads and liven up the place with their unique style and flair are long gone, and those of us who constitute the current setup haven't been able to fill up that void, for some reason or another. In this respect I understand very well what Caity meant in the original post of this thread. Terra-Arcanum is not what it used to be, and it's only the stubborn fuck in me that wants to believe that the trend is not irreversible.

I guess it all started when Troika went to Jahannam. We were always a Troika fansite, and with the object of our idolatry gone, we found ourselves in a position where we didn't have anything in particular to be about. So we turned into something of an exclusive club instead, the varnish of which has finally cracked and fallen off. Suffice to say, we can't go on like this forever. The HoL is dying.

I've invested far too much time on this place to just see it die, but I've much too late realized that in order for us to live on, we have to be about something. We need a reasonably active News section, we need new things to talk about. The terror that is hindsight is currently tormenting me about why we never covered the present projects of Troika; for instance, Leonard Boyarsky is the lead designer of Diablo III. Why on Earth haven't we discussed that?

To partially answer that, I would like to add that when news reached us about Troika's demise, I actually raised this very question. I wanted us to cover other games and projects (a good idea), and suggested that we cover the then newly announced Oblivion (okay, that was a terrible idea). It didn't go down too well with the powers that then were, who felt that we'd lose our image and character if we divided our scope between Troika and other things. Well, now we've seem to gone and lost it anyway.

I'm all up for ideas, by the way. How do we ensure the future survival of this place, if it's still worth fighting for?

I have only seen glimpses of the old HoL, but to be honest I really like our current setup of active members. I don't care that much for old members (even thou I would probably quit if DE disappered) and this forum still fills up the needs I have, with or without members like Caity.

Regarding the cover of other games: If you think it would raise the activity, then I'm all for it. But, as long as the GD is still active, I don't care that much about the rest of this forum.

I really do hope that Hol stay alive for many years, so perhaps we should talk about other games and having interesting discussions about everything. (sport, biology, history, politics, religion, etc.) Also, are Vorak and Xz really gone?

PS: We have Silvara as well.

Vorak and Xz are gone, yes. They'll probably pop in every now and then to say hello, but I don't expect them to attend this forum with any regularity in the foreseeable future.

Shit. It feels really weird and strange with the idea that Vorak, Xz are gone as well. Who will take their job then?

PS: Some ideas for discussion points:

What are the similarities between the Norse Mythology, Christianity, and other religions?

What for kind of creatures come after the humanity are gone from the Earth?

How far must they go with cloning? What do think about cloning? Should this be possible or forbidden?

Should Europe become one or not?

Was the Euro a good idea, or would you rather have your own coinage back?

Take cover people, long and unbosoming post ahead, incoming.

    :WHAM:

I distinguish two stages of my existence around here. In the first, when I came at a place known as Terra Arcanum, which I treated as a compedium of Arcanum knowledge and an Arcanum discussion forum, there weren't too much threads for me. Sure, they were some really good discussions I enjoyed in both the first stage and second (which I'll mention in a second, be patient, will you?), but there were more of an exception than a rule in the thread repertoire. I'm guessing that by DE's definition the place was already "dead" and "stray" back then. Anyway, in that stage I visited the place mostly when I was currently having a playthrough in Arcanum, for there wasn't much more than that for the likes of myself around.

In the second stage I began to actually acclimatise to the forum's feel. I started to consider it a place in which one can express cynism, sarcasm, misantropy, a dark and twisted sense of humor, you name it - in other words, everything that's best in life. A fortress free of the weakness of limited minds and the lowness of most of the Internetz (and, frankly, the world) in which not being able to write properly and having a lobotomy are a requirement in the registration procedure. I know that if I hear, read or see anything that I would want to share with a bunch of intelligent witty people, this is the place to do it - that's what makes me feel home here and that's my contribution into this place. Seems to work swell so far, I'd say.

I admit, the forum seems a little slow as of late, and I rarely have a lot of posts to read during a single session, but maybe it's just an impression of slowness caused by the fact, that I currently visit it more often then I used to? Other than that, I didn't notice any decay. Maybe it's because I never experienced the potential paradise which this place once were, which is why I don't miss it nor do I feel any painful void. An analogy to that would be blindness - only people who became blind during their lives miss their sight, people born blind don't. But that doesn't mean that life can't be a great thing if you are born blind or become blind*, just like this place is great, even if - as some say - it doesn't have its previous splendor. My only fear is that one day I and everyone else can run out of things worth being shared and discussed (yet then again, the world is big and life is short, so I just hope we'll all die before that happens) or the motivation to create new topics, but if the place would always be like it is right now, I'd be fully satisfied with it.

In a way I always appreciated the fact, that we are a cult of a dead god. I much preferred this situation to being an equivalent of No Fucking Mutants Allowed, in which a new god appears, filling the place with a new fandom composed of stupid, illiteracy and ignorance+disdain for the previous gods. Both in real life and here, I don't need to have a higher purpose to justify my existence. Simply enjoying the ride while it lasts is enough of a purpose in itself.

I'm sure about one thing, though - I don't want to witness this place dying out. I've experienced the death of several communities I called on-line homes, but non which I considered as perfect as this one. I doubt there is a second fortress such as this one out there. I appreciate the dedication present in DE (I almost submitted a response full of shameless tenderness when you recently wrote that post about being here to the very end, even it if means talking with your sock puppets) and hope there are more people thinking the same way. So what can be done to prevent the potential destruction of it all?

As for the topics, it's not like the world is suffering a lack of topics worth being discussed. Even Arthgon was able to pull a few good ones out of his ass and he's Arthgon after all. I'm not sure if forcing a forum theme would do us any good ("We are now a forum about Arcanum and hentai, come on people, discuss dammit!"). A better idea would be to encourage talking about everything and nothing in the General Discussion forum and not being afraid of starting a thread which has a potential of not attracting anyone. Theoretically it's obvious, but then again, there were numerous situations in which I though "Well, there is something I'd like to discuss with a bunch of nonretards, but nah, it's not like they'll be interested, I'd better pass and save the shame" and I'm sure I'm not the only one. For a quick example, there were some things I didn't fully understand in "Planescape: Torment", not to mention that there are a few situations in it which were open to interpretation and I'd like to know what interpretations come to mind in the heads of other people. Why didn't I ever start a thread about such things? How the hell should I know. Laziness, perhaps? It's always easier and less demanding to answer threads than create new ones. So maybe it's time for a little more thread creating activity around here. And that's to all of you! Not sure if the place would actually die if there wasn't such self-mobilisation, but since such mobilisation can only end in good, why not try it, eh gentlemen (and the occasional lady)?

    * Okay, bad analogy, blindness sucks ass, but I'm sure everyone gets my point.

If you'd just remove the spam protections, we'd have plenty of active members.

As for me, I doubt I'll ever be super active around here. But I also doubt I'll ever leave for good until this place goes the way of the dodo. This place hasn't really been about anything other than occasionally interesting and amusing conversation mostly free from trolls and e-tards since I quit playing Arcanum. I don't know that I've ever even posted anything in any of the game forums.

So, I say we march on, quitters be damned. But I think part of our problem is that this place is being crushed under its own weight. Consider the joke thread: no one posts jokes anymore because they're afraid the joke has already been posted in the forty-something pages, and they're probably right. After ten years, there's bound to be a thread about just about anything you might think of to discuss, particularly if it pertains to Troika's games.

Regardless of what the "Powers that Be" then deemed right an proper for a fan site, you, DE, are the "Powers that Be" now. Covering what members of Troika are doing now that they've moved on to other things (refuse to say bigger and better) would be a wonderful idea for a fan site to do. Look at whedonesque.com, joss may not be working with the actors he used to but whenever one of their projects is announced, or a fan does something remarkable, they cover it on the site.

True, although it sure does feel a little late to start covering Diablo III now.
