    half dragons are created by magic, try reading the first three books of the Dragon Lance series. and besides, it would be phisically impossible for a dragon and a human to mate, you would know this if you had ever watched the discovery channel, and yes I do realize dragons are fictional creatures.

    Half Dragons are purely magical creatures, so scientists would be completely out of their league. And all the half dragons I have ever read about in stories are created by extremely powerful mages that are trying to conqure or destroy that known world. There are also different types of half dragons.
