No, leave the tig file alone.

You probably won't see the patch0 file with WorldEd. It's bug-fixes anyway and no maps (as I recall). If you wish to study it, then I'd suggest making a folder and using one of the database builders to unpack it into the newly made folder. You'll need to rename it to Arcanum.patch0.dat to get it recognised as a DAT.

Where the maps and map-related material is at is the Arcanum.dat.
Using the 1.0.7.4 it will take about an hour to load into WorldEd, so plan for something to do that doesn't involve your computer.

Assuming you're just customising your personal game:
If you really want to do more than just add a pyro axe to the Crash Site, I'd recommend getting a copy of the 1.0.7.0 WorldEd from the download section and replacing the 1.0.7.4 version with it (Huge time savings!), rename the existing Arcanum.dat and the patch0 files to XArcanum.dat and Arcanum.patch0.dat.

Now make a pair of folders in the Arcanum/modules section named Arcanum.dat and Arcanum.patch0. Using one of the dat-builder programs, unpack the renamed dats into it's corresponding folder. WorldEd will now display these and that's half the battle right there.

For the DATs in the Sierra/Arcanum section I suggest these get unpacked into someplace separate from the game. ie: StudyArcanum. Inside that folder create new ones with the names Arcanum1.dat, Arcanum2.dat, etc. Now unpack your game's DATs into those folders.

Finally, in your game's Sierra/Arcanum section create a folder named Arcanum5.dat. Here's where you place all the new scripting, modified inventory files, portraits, etc. The unpacked DATs will show you the layout and what belongs where.

I realise this is a bit different than what's posted above, but for the casual or beginning modder I think it may seem less intimidating.

Thanks for pointing me to the Arcanum.dat and the Arcanum.patch0. I've been wanting to see how Troika built their maps and such.
So, I fired up WorldEd and loaded the shrouded hills panarii temple map. That went fine. Then I tried the Arcanum 1-024-fixed map and WorldEd crashed. Now it crashes every time I try to open it. ("WorldEd has encountered a problem etc...) I am using WorldEd 1.0.6.9. and am running windows xp.

EDIT: I had the arcanum1.dat etc... called xarcanum1.dat... anyway I changed them back and it's all fixed now.

Did you do anything with the rules/maplist.mes or rules/townmap.mes?

This is what happens to me whenever I make a typo on one of those.

    So am I.

Caught your edit - I hadn't thought of that.
