You get 5 points of magical aptitute per spell. up to 100 points away from your STARTING points...

    what does that mean?
An elf starts with +15% magical aptitute, it has a max of 115%.
A human starts with +0%, he has a 100% max.
A human who sold his soul starts with +20%, he has a max of 120%...

A dwarf will always be a weaker mage than a human which is weaker than an elf... that being said, I am playing a human mage right now, who is a charletan's protege (for insane cha, I wanna max out persuade), and it really isn't a problem... You put most early points into spells, with the occasional points into will power to unlock higher level spells... and pretty soon you have it.

I also mined the portal near liams lab for XP until it ran out (Took me from level 8 to 25 before running out of monsters). Stupidly I told virgil to "wait here" for me... so he got no XP, So virgil and magnus are now level 10 and 9 and I am 27. gah.

Dwarf mages are hard, not so much because of a lack of magical aptitude, but because the cost of spells for them is twice as much as any other race. Too easily do they faint before they kill a critter.

Well, you could always use the save game editor and take yourself down to level 9. Your xp stays the same, so on the next kill or gain of experience, you'll jump back up to 27. Followers should jump up with you.

Yea, twice the mana cost IS hard as hell... But it is further compounded upon by your spells being weaker; someone here said it will take 4 extra spells known to compensate, I was pointing out that it is not the case, you will never have a 100% magery as a dwarf (who did not sell his soul)... this is one of those "what were they thinking" moments.

nice idea... is there a way to level only the followers?

BTW, how come an average town housewife is level 15, and average town guard 25 in some towns? that makes no sense... the average housewife can kick the ass of the level 2 ogre you meet in shrouded hills (Also, level 2? really? I was level 5 or 6 before even reaching shrouded hills)

Yeah they probably should of had a feature like the one in Neverwinter Nights where you tell your followers to be your level.

Community of the House of Lords, is it true what this man says?
    (3) I heard about the fact, that background increasing MA can make one go above 100 MA. Does it still work like that in the UAP?
    (2) Quite obvious.
    (1) This is what intrigued me. Do race MA increases indeed allow one to get above 100MA? If so, an elf with the "Sold you Soul" background could go up to 135 MA, which would be quite holyshitious.

No. I just checked it with creating a dwarf with magic allergy. He started with 27 TA, of which 10 was from the background, while 17 was kinda from the race, but it wasn't a forced number like in an elf's/half-elf's case, for the TA came from the tech skills. Anyway, if what you say would be true, tha max MA for this dwarf would surely be under 100, yet he had no problem going up to 100MA. I took into consideration that while the displayed value is 100MA he could still be capped at 90MA, but that is not so - proven with summoning a vorpal bunny.

If anyone of us will appear to be aware of such kind of a mod, posting the same question in as much threads as possible won't increase the propability that he will share his knowledge with you.

If they didnt allow MA to increase above 100%, I cant help but feel they certainly should have. If for nothing else than due to the various "-mage" backgrounds. What's the point of a background that will eventually only hamper you when you're not in your preferred enviroment and not provide any bonus once you're MA-capped (apart from the obvious RP value)?

Also, it would make sense that racial bonuses increase / hamper MA, even at maximum level, as some of these races do have a natural aptitude for magic and thus should get further with the same amount of training. Not that logic has ever prevented game designers from doing what they want though.

The point? Why, the fact, that for example, an elf will have to put less effort into becoming a achmage than a human. In other words, with the same effort put in studying magick, an elf will always be more skilled at it.

By logic alone, no human archmage should ever be more skilled in magick than an elf archamge, because due to the lifespan of those two an elf has ten times more time to study and improve his magickal abilities than a human, and has always more time to do it than a representative of any other race. Keeping that in mind, we could ask why aren't all of Tulla's master mages elvish? The answer to those issues is "game logic".

This was basically what I was trying to say with the second paragraph. The first one was annoyance towards the Day / Night / Sky / Nature Mage backgrounds if, once at 100% MA, they only result in negative effects.

Point is though, you start out at level 1 with the same set of points to spend; the only difference is your choice of race / background. So, apparently, if you choose elf, you've been slacking for the first ~100 years, more or less. What I was trying to convey was the fact that, given equal amount of time and effort (as in from 1-50), the elf would in fact come out on top. It's like if I had put in as much effort into training as Usain Bolt, I still wouldnt be competing (I guess competing in this case is kinda relative) for gold medals.

I believe 120 MA is the max. This is based on the fact that the save editor caps out at 120. Interestingly, tech caps at 115.
