    Ah, true. I never thought of that.

    If that was the case, though, how did Anders survive? Just as they would have been supressing magic as you put it they sure as hell wouldn't let him run off and hide in a crate when the darkspawn arrived. Somehow I doubt Anders armed with naught but a robe and a stick had a better chance of surviving the initial attack than a pair of heavily armoured templars.

    More likely is that the arrival of the darkspawn provided sufficient distraction for the templars as to allow Anders to get off a spell and kill them all. I seriously doubt he was above killing a couple of zealots, escaping from the circle so often doesn't come from handing out flowers and asking nicely to leave.
