Atheism is one of the most pathetic forms of Christianity ever. It's the belief that there is a God, but that you won't follow him.

Satanism is the belief that there is a God, and you won't follow him. Atheists believe in nothing. No soul, no Jesus, no heaven or hell. Agnostics believe there is something, they just don't know what. Personally, I think agnostics are the most pathetic bastards of all. Even if I think others are wrong, at least I can respect their convictions.

I'd rather choose ignorance than to wait for proof any time too, rosie.

I, on the other hand, am an "agnostic fundamentalist"* and I believe that if you claim that to believe one way or another then you are a condescending fool. As an agnostic fundamentalist I believe that the proof of god is equal to the proof that there is no god, and that either possibility is equally likely.

If you want to call me pathetic then thats wonderful. The whole idea is that I'm not going to go around preacing one thing or the other and claiming to know. The idea is that by admitting my ignorance and remaining closed to all preaching and persuasion, I will be able to exist more peacefully with my fellow human beings. I'm used to hearing that agnostics are the "most pathetic" etc.

Interestingly enough it seems my philosophy convinces more atheists than anything else.

*(I'd like to claim credit for the creation of the term "agnostic fundamentalist", as I am the first (to my knowledge) to have coined it)

Isn't that what I said? Oh, and I dislike Atheists so much simply because believing that there is a God, but refusing to follow him seems... dumb. That's like saying that we live in the Matrix, but you don't believe it.

Disbelief means that they simply do not believe that a God, or Gods, exists. I have never seen an atheist proclaim that, sure, there is a God, but I will not believe in him. Yours, which we appearently have to repeat, is the definition of Satanism.

And when the fuck did atheism become a denomination of Christianity? Atheism is not part of any religion whatsoever.

@ Rosie: Cannot see how agnosticism would be pathetic. I am with Sleek here. Given that we cannot prove whether there are divine entities or not, it is actually a rather sound way of thinking.
Now, what IS pathetic are those nutcases that want to see the apocalypse a few times each year and condemn everything which does not belong to their congregation as EVIL (written just like that, caps and boldface and everything).

The only Atheists I know think that there is a god out there somewhere, but that he isn't worth following, and that's what I'm basing my comments off. I just don't understand that. That just seems so contradicting and stupid of a belief. Though I suppose that many would call my beliefs dumb, so perhaps it is understandable.

Well, your friends have a weird definition of atheism then. I agree that it sounds dumb. If you believe that there is a hell and that God will torture you there forever if you don't flatter him enough...

Can't blame them for not being subversive though. :)

Not at all actually. Satanism was around before Christianity.

That's true, the Christian's simply incorporated Satan as a means to help keep people in line.

Satanism still sounds pretty stupid though.

I sounds a lot like like the Wiccaan "religion," or any other stupid goth trend; it goes out of its way to seem dark and deviant, but no one involved in it is really nihilistic enough actually worship the christian version of satan, or brew any real poison and do away with their enemies etc. When was the last time you met a boil covered wiccaan living in the woods collecting some poisonous root so he/she could poison their neighbor? Never. They're all software developers, or just nerdy office workers, or high school students. I think the origins of these deceptivly dark religions lies in the fact that these people are nerds and want to appear darker than average in hopes that it will somehow attract a mate. Ever notice how 67% of females at goth clubs are fat? I think its the same sort of trend. Self consciousness leads to people seeking out new forms of sexual assertion; if you can't have the fast car or the big tits, why not have the pewter necklace?

Its all pretty pathetic. Another thing it reminds me of are those kids in church "youth groups" (this may be an american trend, or possibly a "gen x" trend or whatnot, but hopefully you'll all know what I'm talking about) who are all full of faith and prayer during high school, while they are hanging out with their buds at their church retreats, and at their youth masses, but then they get to college and become atheist or agnostic. Its all a social response by my recollection.

Ultimately I think everyone is secretly agnostic in one way or another. The sad part is when you meet an individual who has decided they dont necessarily believe in one god or another, outside of a sense that they believe in an all powerful being but still attend the church they were raised in and hold tight to all the political and social reins this upbringing has placed upon them. This can include sexism, homophobia, and other forms of intolerance, or closed mindedness.

In the end I think the most flexible, society friendly, thing to do is let go of all assumptions of god or lack of god, and look at why you do what you do, and the roots of this behaviour and where it has gotten not just yourself but the people around you and make a decision based on that. Thats why I'm an agnostic fundamentalist.

The wiccan religion actually says very clearly that you are not to harm anyone. Thus why they're not poisoning their neighbours.

No your point seemed to be that Wicca is false or only for show, as I recall it's a religion focused around a belief in magic, yet a pledge not to use magic to harm people. Those aren't contradictory ideals.
