    America is the land of the free. Gay people can't marry because they don't fit the criteria of human and are not subject to any civil rights. The fact that the free people of America allow gays to go unlynched is a testament to their greatness and compassion.

    freedom is the right to make your own decicions. Hence it is the right to marry if you want to. (ofcourse the person you want to marry would have to want to marry you aswell.) :p

    The US government has any right to dictate anything about marriage. Marriage is a religious sacrament. Every "marriage" performed in the US is both a civil union, recognized by the states, and a marriage, church sponsered. The government should grant the right to any person to form a union with any other person, and if the church doesn't like it they can go shove a cross up their ass.

    Certain states do, and they call it marriage because of convention, but in truth it is a civil union unless the churches agree, then it's a civil union and a marriage. Certain states aren't being as "progressive", as it is coined, although giving someone the rights they should already have is hardly progress, it's more settling up.
