I want to become a pick pocket expert, but don't want to go to Caladon on foot, I'll level up too much on the way (trying to keep a low level to pick up followers when they still have time to level up. Can't download patches:() Is there anyone in Tarant who could make me a pick pocket expert?

Absolutely! Mr. Black from the Theives' Guild will be more than happy to give you expert training.

You can also get expert pick pocket training from Poone. He's the owner of Poone's Flophouse in Tarant. It's the inn like building next to Madam Lil's.

And in the prison of Ashbury I think is some guy that can train you as well... I doubt it's apprentice. There's also one for backstabb there, but you must pay to release them from prison.

And where could one find apprentice training for pickpocket? I'm on a new game with a battlemagethief, and I keep failing trying to pickpocket that nifty sword Lianna has... I've yet to find anyone who will train me, and the site only lists the guy in Caladon, and I'm a LONG way off from there, I've only just finished shrouded hills and moved into dernholm

Vollinger will train you as an apprentice. He's in the pub in Dernholm.

IIRC, the dialog choice, "I seek Apprentice training" should be in your first or second dialog box with him. Yours, not his.

Or simply use a fate point. You probably got out of SH with one.

If I remember correctly the only way to get apprentice training from the thieves in Tarant or Caladon is to become a member of the Thieves Underground. I'm not sure if Vollinger has this requirement or not but that could be why you don't see the dialogue option.

Quite possible..I'll give that a try.

Oh yeah...fate points...you know, I always forget to use those things..
Gone through entire games without using a one, too..

Vollinger does not have any faction membership requirement. You can just walk in and get training.

Have you spoken with him previously? Has he at any time joined your party? I know he won't train you while he's in your party, maybe he won't train you afterwards as well. Dunno. *shrug*

Volinger is the only way around the lock the Guild has on Apprentice pickpocket training. Poone, onwer of the floophouse, is the outside Expert trainer.

Hasn't joined me, I only talked to him once, and didn't get the option. Maybe I was supposed to tell him about the crash?

No you should get the option of being trained as apprentice BEFORE you tell him that, in the very first choice of dialog lines you get when you talk to him
