Your Geekiest Endeavor

At the moment I think the geekiest thing I've ever attempted was making a D&D 3.0 prestige class based upon the character Ness from the Earthbound series but modeled more after his abilities as portrayed in Super Smash Bros.

 

I have several times, with different friends, decided to create a new RPG (Pen and paper of course) and spent many hours on something that would only wither out in the sand.

 

Similar to wobbler.
Also, a foolish attempt to make a walking cane flame thrower.

 

I actually created an RPG hybrid when I was 16. It took place in a new city in the Forgotten Realms, complete with noble families, premade characters, special races, and new abilities. There were also maps, tables of data, and costumes. Because LARP was how we rolled. Shockingly, my friends went along with it, and we played Rivershire (God, how common!) for months.

 

I have read 'The Silmarillion' cover to cover multiple times.

 

I played my Gameboy DS while my wife was giving birth.

 

I think we got ourselves a winner.

 

This was not intended as a competition, but damn that is good!

 

I reckon I've started/half-written/planned but never actually started about a thousand novels in my life, easy peasy.

I've written near-complete P&P Systems for Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star 4, Dynasty Warriors and about eight or nine other games too. I've played all three editions of the FFRPG numerous times, too.

Don't even start me on Baldur's Gate II. That game is the reason I own 2E rulebooks for D&D.

 

I just beat Might and Magic 7: For Blood and Honor, and did it without cheating.

 

Spending any amount of time with RPGMaker is the geekiest thing anybody has ever done. Same applies to The Sims.

Second Edition Dungeons and Dragons is the reason I own the Rules Cyclopedia (I assume we are talking D&D and not AD&D). Which is geekier?

For those of you who have reread books, doesn't that seem inappropriate somehow? It does to me. Be that as it may, I have read Robert Reed's Marrow more than once and Neal Stephenson's The Diamond Age more than once. Marrow comes highly recommended for those who are a fan of "hardcore" science fiction. The Diamond Age achieves a perfect blend of science fiction and steampunk for my tastes--nanotechnology and Victorian sensibilities.

 

I named my son after a comic book villian.

 

Wait a moment. When you were playing DS while your wife gave birth, I assumed one of two things was the case:

• 1) You were playing Trauma Center, simulating the experience of helping a woman give birth, or
  2) She was not giving birth to your child, in which case playing video games while she is experiencing utter agony serves her right.

What book? What villain?

 

I was playing Golden Sun and the comic is Fantastic Four. I named my son after their greatest nemesis: Victor Von Doom. Just add my last name instead of Doom.
