XP? What the frak?

I must be missing something. I went from the crash site to Shrouded Hills, Dernholm, Black Root, and Liam's Workshop. My character is level 4, and I have a feeling I'm way, way out of my league. Are there a large number of quests in Dernholm that I missed? There didn't seem to be much to do there except take Praetor's mission to Black Root.

I think I missed out on a lot of levelling somewhere. Or should I have gone straight to Tarant in pursuit of the main plot?

 

Well, you can level to around level 5 before leaving Shrouded Hills, so... yeah, maybe you missed some stuff.

 

Actually Arkain, I can easily hit level 10 before leaving Shrouded Hills.

 

I am so not believing that. There simply isn't enough XP to gain at that point. Unless, of course, you spend hours wandering between the Crash Site and Shrouded Hills for random encounters. But that wouldn't qualify as "easily". I agree with Arkain, in vanilla Arcanum one can get to around lvl 5 on normal/hard before leaving the town when doing all available quests and such.

Not a large number, but there is one ring-involving quest around. There is also a small location between Dernholm and Black Root which can be a source of some XPs. At that point of the game encountering some venomous rats can very well nearly give you an additional level. Not that it's really needed, because...

..while it would take a very powerful character to fight his way through the Liam's Workshop bit, it's not sheer power that you need there, but tactic. The whole location was probably meant to be a "holy shit that's insane, good thing I can go around it" one.

 

before I leave the crash site I hit level 5. I do the artifact recovery quest that knocks me up to 6. When I reach SH I kill off the pests in the temple, do the doc Roberts quest, and Joggle Dune's quest for the engine. Clear the mines and around it, kill the 3 pigs above the mines. If I feel I need gold then I just repeat kill Gaylin and sell the scrolls till I have the gold amount I want. as I leave town for a while I kill off the bandits at the bridge. That's how I hit level 10 before leaving.

 

Aren't you a little too old for playing on easy?

 

lmao, I jacked up my easy to hard, my normal to hardcore, and Hard to batshit insane. instead of changing my exp put from event, I tripled my odds of failure by putting stronger creatures. XD

 

I made the mistake of forgetting that whatever you play is nowhere near vanilla. Yet keep in mind that by saying things like "I can easily hit level 10 before leaving Shrouded Hills" in the Hints & Tips forum you confuse people, because you make them think they can do it themselves without telling them that they would need something like your custom enhanced version to achieve so much. Unless, of course, the said confusion is your very purpose, you bastard you.

Using just the UAP and doing as many quests as possible I get to finish Shrouded hills around level 7. I do kill all the wolves walking down from the crash site.

 

I'm like magikarp, I reach level 7 as I finish Shrouded Hills. My biggest dilemma is usually deciding if I want to go to Tarant or Dernholm first. I'm pretty sick of the main storyline now.

 

I'll just be hanging on to this for future reference.

 

This actualy depends of your character type too. If you are the fighter, then you get waaaay more exp than one who just lets his followers do the job and enjoys the show.

 

Meh, if I ever post enough to warrant a custom avvy I wonder if I'll get to evolve into Gyarados. Or will I still be waiting to evolve?
