I've just arrived in Ashbury, and I'm encountering a bizarre bug. For some reason, two random citizens hate me- a half-elf mage (the one at 10 Harbor View) and a halfling citizen. No matter what save I load, whenever I approach them, they attack me on sight. I haven't done anything illegal in Ashbury, and the default reaction of most people to me is 43-63 or so (as opposed to -123). No other Ashbury residents hate me.

If it helps, I'm playing an highly evil Elf mage with the "Sold Your Soul" background. I am also using the official patch.

This is a known bug. If memory serves, the two in Ashbury are set with the Clan Maug faction. If you wiped out the gang in Tarant, then you get attcked in Ashbury.

It was corrected in the Unofficial Patch.

Oh. Do they actually have any significance (side-quests, useful information, etc.), or does killing them have minimal impact on the game?

Just don't let the guards see you do it.

Kill them, go away from the corpses and advance the time one day.

Speaking of killing and not getting caught, what's the story with the dragging corpses thing?

It works, since all you have to do is move the corpse out of anyones line of sight. But its quicker and easier to advance time 24 hours.

But are you considered caught in the act if someone comes across the corpse?

Doesn't anybody read manuals any more? I hope you know how to focus attacks on the head/arms/legs.

I never got a physical manual; just a digital one in the game I think.

I've no problem reading physical manuals, but the digital ones are a bit of a drag.

I lost my manual a long long time ago... Not trying to be a pest, but you mind explaining this head/arms/legs thing?

If memory serves, when you're about to attack somebody/something you hold down the , or . or / key to focus, click while you have the button pressed... or you press it after you attack, don't remember. It's less accurate but very crippling, I think.
My manual is lost in a pile of junk. =\
