Why is my half-ogre so scary with an Arcane Great-sword?!

I've seen people talk about the Pryo Axe a whole lot, probably because it does great damage even if you don't have the str... well, I'm playing a 4 int 24 str 20 dex Half-Ogre, and my Arcane Great-sword kills everything...

Anyways... how come in faqs i've read, they mention using the Machined Gauntlets to handle weapon damaging monsters but never mentioned the Arcane Greatsword? (It's the only "arcane" weapon I've used) It doesn't get damaged, EVER, except by critical failures... I see a locked door? I hack it down. A lock chest? hack it down... Locked anything that has HP, and I'll just break it down... Steel bars, jail doors, etc...

But the weird thing, he attacks SO fast with the Arcane Greatsword for some reason... the weapon is at speed 11, which is, IIRC, the same or even slower than the Pyro Axe, but the Pyro Axe is so slow...

Oh, and I don't know why the Arcane Greatsword has charges. I see no spells available, but it has charges, which is usually at 20... I've gotten it down to 2 before, but I don't know what I did.

 

Those "charges" are mana. It's like extra fatigue in spells. I thought the Arcane Great Sword's speed was 13.

 

Pyro Axe's basic speed (without Melee Apprentice bonus) is 5, Arcane Great Sword's basic speed is 8. Of course the Arcane Great sword attacks faster. It uses 2 action points less per strike. BUT the weakness of the Arcane Great sword is that you don't get full damage from it without high MA. If your MA is low, you better take the Barbarian Heavy Blade. It does damage itself when hitting hard things, but its even faster than Arcane Great sword.
Also, the Pyro axe deals fire damage, to which most monsters are less resistant than to a normal one.

Try the Heavy Barbarian Blade for speed. Almost as fast as a Katana. Not immune to damage as all the Arcane weapons seem to be.
