Where do followers go after they leave your party?

Where do followers go after they leave your party? Are they gone permantly??

I've had Sogg leave my party and disappear on me, and then I found him back at the inn in Shrouded Hills, so my guess is that they go back to their original location. Although I can't confirm this for every follower.

 

Well, according to the other forum, it is kinda true. As stated there, Virgil left the party and went back to the crash site. That is before Virgil became *****.

 

everyone returns to the places where you found them. like the dwarf outside the jewelery shop. I noticed that they can even dissapear of the island of despair probably by swimming! Bug! some followers are only temporary and you can take them even if you don't have space and they will remain in the place you left them for the end of time (Chukka ogre)

 

also concerning the follower slots, if you take one in exceeding your space if you make him wait then talk again to continue he(she) will say that you don't have space.
