Vollinger stepped on one too many traps for his own good in Black Mountain... is there any way to restore the stupid gnome's life?

Edit: And why does the Molochean Half Ogre Bandit hiding in the room with three beds have an alignment of +10 (good)? Aren't they all supposed to be evil?

    2 things

if you are a magic user, if you have the ressurect spell, then use that, and if you dont you can use a scroll of ressurect. expensive but effective

Or get a 500-stone inkwell from the local herbologist.

His body might have decayed by the time you return. I suggest reloading and planning ahead next time.

I knew of both of these tricks. The game says, "This life cannot be replenished." I was looking for a way to circumvent this.

Should work if you use a "restore life" thingy which you can buy with herbalists.

In my case, I did use a restore life thingy because I knew that due to the tech alignment Vollinger couldn't be resurrected by magic.
