Any tips for my thief? General tips... What to max? Prowling? Backstab? Melee? Dodge? Throw? Baclground? Stats? Any tips apreciated!
Thats true about pickpockets but don't worry about master quest! Its really not worth the bonus. Just save the game before the quest, I believe you'll want to return to it! Yah definitely want dex to 20! At least expert persuation 3 ranks. dodge/melee, maybe a little bow or throw/explosives techy or even shoot em up with firearms/gun smithy tech. Just save often with diff games and reload if you don't like what yah just did. Since everyone plays differen, Experiment and you can tell us how it went! Parmanian
There are many ways to play a thief, but you'll usually want to put lots of points into pick pocket and pick locks. Backstab you can do without, max out, or anything in between (just be sure to have expert melee if you want to backstab). Prowling, like backstab, can be 0 to 5 points, depending upon what you want to do. Spot traps is probably the least useful skill. A magic-oriented thief might want to get invisibility... A tech-oriented thief probably wants to look at electric, explosives, and/or chemistry. Of course, thieves are good with a mix of magic and tech as well...
the bad thing with prowling is that you have to do it yourself no party with you. they try to prowl also and they don't do a very good job. so you find yourself waiting party members and rejoining alot. Parmanian
The best thief tip I know is Oiled Thieve's Leather. It gives 1/4 to prowl, pickpocket, & spot traps. 2 1/4 points is all you need for Expert training in any field. Totaly exclent thief start, Halfling Raised by Orcs. He starts with ST 7, DX & PE 10, CH 2, 1/4 in bow, mele, throw, & prowl, 1/2 in Dodge. As a thief needs DX & PE, well.... Three basic types: Skills based thief. Only tech comes from pick locks. he pushes DX, PE, pickpocket, prowl, & pick locks along with whatever combat method he kills with. Tech thief. He will always get two points in Electrical for the Charged Rings. Often Explosives & throw. Often a gunslinger, rarely a gunsmith. You can steal some great guns. Often a high prowl Assasin. Sometimes a trapmaker, Mechanical does that one. Sometimes a Chemist. Mage thief. Agility of Fire is his first spell. He will not study direct damage spells, going for mele, backstab, bow or throw to kill. He can boost his prowl with cloaks & rings, no points are needed for Expert Prowl, 2 - 3 for Master. Phantasim to Invisibility is a natural. Biggest question. Do you use Unlocking Cantrip & push spells for a high MA? Or do you study lockpick for its scilence as you don't use those direct damage spells which need a high MA? There is a LOT of room for individual choice within those types. There are prowling followers in the game. I have often split off a prowling sub party. Have fun.
