Yeah, a crappy spin on the title I know. Still, it's somewhat reflective of my opinion at the moment (which means it could, and most likely will change).

I don't like the interface. I'm going to go so far as to say it's the clunkiest and worst one I've ever used. Arcanum's interface was far from the best around, but compared to PS:T's it looks positively brilliant. What is it with the inability to quickly perform commands? I have to click the mouse 3 or 4 times just to be able to speak to my followers - that ain't cool. Never mind how fucking hard it is to differentiate the buttons in the lower right hand corner, and how confusing the inventory system is. Those are pretty big problems right there.

Fortunately, the rest of the game is really good. You get loaded down with quests, which can be quite confusing to complete (I only managed to complete 1 in several hours of playing, that being the one where you have to get the needle and fluid in the Mortuary). Still, at least it gives me a lot to explore.

Dialogue is really well done. I particularly like the options when you catch a certain thief (I forget his name, but I remember repeatedly slugging him quite hard to teach him the folly of stealing from me). Combat isn't too bad either, although I wish I could see some sort of hit point indicator and my chance to hit opponents.

The journal and stuff is great - I really like the artwork in the bestiary, although I have no idea how some of the people in there got there. Still, it looks like this game will be holding my attention for a good long time, because having a quick read through of a crappy walkthrough, it appears I missed a shit load of stuff just inside the Mortuary, and I thought I'd cleared it out. Oh well, it's what I like.

I just regret that I am pretty full up timetable wise till next Saturday, and won't be able to play much between now and then.

I really don't like the interface.

Interface could be better, I'll grant you.

Glad you do like it, or I'm afraid I was gonna have to slug you. :D
I do hate the combat, though. I HATE real time. The enemy closes in on you so fast, and if you're a mage, you don't have time to cast but 1, maybe 2 spells before they are in your face. Also, a hit point indicator would be neat. It needs this feature. Nothing like whaling on someone thinking, "Damn, when is this bitch gonna DIE!!!"

Actually, I hated the journal. Just wait until you are about half-way through the game, and the journal is so loooooooooooong... I wish it was catagorized. Maybe location catagories. The artwork is good though.

    Amen, Brother Ben.
Shot a rooster, killed a hen.
The hen died, the biddies cried,
    The rooster committed suicide.

Errr.....Preach on, brother. I hated it too. Yes, hated. I got used to it.

I can't say I didn't like interface. I didn't like combat that's for sure, but later on I got used to it.

Jar if you haven't already done it then patch the game to 1.1 (or higher if available) - otherwise you'll encounter "number of attacks per round dopped to 1 after hitting lvl20" bug. Of course if you decide to play as a mage you don't really need to worry all that much.

The interface does take some getting used to. After a few hours of play, it's not so bad.

You can pause the real time to issue commands.

And there is a hit point/mana indicator. It's somewhere in the options, I think. I forget exactly how to turn it on now, but it adds numbers on top of the normal colored indicator bars.

    :hump:

congrats on finally getting the game! What charceter are you playing?

I bet you missed the skeletons. I know I did the first time round.

Only advice I have right now is to remember that the game rewards you extravagantly for non-violence. Extravagantly.

And oh, if you choose sarcastic dialogue options you become more Chaotic...

[EDIT - in reply to CtDiscord's post below] Nothing much. You know, just the best storyline in a game the world has ever seen! [/EDIT]

It is a game you must get if you really like RPGs. There are so many quests in it some people even bitched that it's an adventure game.

Uh, it should be pretty cheap now, so you shouldn't really need a demo. Demo's for RPG's tend to be pretty crappy anyway - Arcanum's was probably the best (Fallout had a surprisingly crap one).

Okay, more impressions - Hive Thugs keep attacking me, so I keep kicking their ass. Not my fault, I just walk on by, and combat music starts playing. In conversation, I tend to punish thieves pretty badly (Fleece copped two punches to the head, which I quite enjoyed). Otherwise, I tend to help people. I'm still True Neutral.

I'm currently a level 6 Fighter and level 3 or 4 Thief...I think 4. Not sure what profession I really want to stick with. I mean, I have 15 dex, 16 Wisdom, 13 Intelligence, Constitution and Strength, and 9 Charisma.

Now, to my next gripe - weapons. What is it with RPG's that makes them have a large selection of sub-standard, crappy, weapons? I mean, I want some weapons! As a thief, I'm using some enchanted punch daggers, as a Fighter I was using an enchanted battle axe, and if that's the best stuff I can get, I'm really disappointed. Is there better stuff around, and I'm just not at that level, or have I reached the pinnacle?

Related to that, what proficiencies are the best? I've got a whole heap of proficiency points, and no idea what to use them on. Can you only train proficiencies up as a fighter?

Followers wise, I have Annah, Dak'kon and Morte. I've just discovered Morte is a lying sonuvabitch :). I also have to find where Annah found me. Sub-quest wise, I've got a pretty good idea of how to complete most of the rest that I've got (although I'm not too keen on finding Gris's body for Quint).

A lot of questions I know. If you answer any, my thanks ;).

I'd say the first time through you should go with a fighter then mage and then a thief (if you feel playing thrice of course)

There are much better weapons than what you described but truth is that there aren't a lot of weapons in Planescape's world. The best thing you can get is Entropy Blade which shapes into any weapon you choose it to become. The only better thing is Celestial Sword, haveing the same shapechange ability, but as it can only be wielded by lawful good characters it's usage is rather limited.

I think you can learn as mage/thief too iirc but you can't put as many proficiency points to one thing as fighter can (just like in BG, same system here). If you're a mage you should go for daggers, same with thief unless there's another proficiency for punch daggers that I don't recall.

Punched daggers use the fists proficiency...

I'm actually stuck in the game at this point in time. I've got no idea what to do...

Also, I found out the ending, completely by accident. Calis, the FAQ should warn people when major spoilers like the ending just appear in the middle of it with no warning whatsoever. I mean, I'm reading about some minor question, and then all of a sudden a question about the ending pops up and all is accidentally revealed!

    Not happy...

You're the first person to complain about this. And that FAQ's been up for almost two years! Maybe after you see the ending you'll realize that it doesn't actually spoil a whole lot.

And didn't I give you the URL of the weapons list? Did I ever tell you to go check out the FAQ? Noooooo, but you had to go and look at it anyway! :p

Okay, so maybe I had some questions that I wanted answered...like where to find certain people etc etc etc.

I now also have Fall-From-Grace in my party, and ditched Ignus after rescuing him - I have no use for crazed mages. Especially when I'm not one. I'm a level 8 thief and level 6 fighter (still). Kind of wondering whether I should just stick with being a thief or not. I've got a pretty cool set of punch daggers (the ones you get from Lenny the thief).

You know, I realised the other day why I didn't buy Planescape: Torment. The ad. The ad was bad. You know that ad where you've got that giant golem walking and every time he puts his foot down, another word appears on the screen? Well, it doesn't actually convey what the hell the game is about. Plus that and I saw the one screenshot in the ad that shows the Baldur's Gate likeness of it. Which may have put me off just a little.

Carry on people. Nothing to see here.

I would say Mage first, then fighter. Thief f you like, after that.

The cover isn't a design breakthrough either.

There aren't really any souped-up weapons in the game. If anything, you'll get more satisfaction out of spells. Serious. You have to see the cutscenes fot the high level spells - they rock.

I would say Bladed (or something like that - can't recall). The one that lets you use swords. (Entropic Blade)

The only two "swords" in the whole game are Celestial Sword and Entropy Blade. As I said you shape them with your will to a weapon of your choosing, hence they use that weapon's proficiency. I had all my points in Axes&Hammers and had no problem using Entropy Blade shaped into an Axe.

Aren’t you power-mad? Seriously now, what sort of pissed me in the beginning was the absence of armor. The proficiencies will work better if you know the class you intend to develop more. For instance, of you plan to stay a lot as a thief or mage there is no point in investing on maces and axes. For thieves go either fists or edged, if you play as mage invest only in edged.
But you can switch classes. So you can invest some points when you are a fighter then switch back to your original class.

HOW IN THE BLUE HELL DO YOU PEOPLE PLAY RPG'S SO FAST!!!!!!!!!

Jar, you are almost caught up with me, and I've had the game for 3-4 months. Can't understand why I am so slow at RPGs. Guess it's my "leave no stone unturned" philosophy.

Oh, and Jar, you need to decide what you're gonna be. Matter of fact, if you are that far in the game already, I wouldn't change. It would be a major loss of experience points. As far as being a theif, I wouldn't simply cause I haven't found much call for a theif in the game yet. Plus you have Annah to do that for you.

I realised that retard, which is why I've started over for the third time. I'm currently a mage, although I'll be switching back to fighter soon to complete a couple of quests. Guess I'll be staying away from the thief part for a while.

I could have stuck with being a thief, but I hadn't been thorough enough in the game up to that point, and I couldn't really go back and fix it easily, so I decided to start over (that and I think I messed up my chance with Annah - I bit her back :D). Also, Morte didn't disappear on me or whatever happens like it's supposed to, and I like the full story.
