So apart from the awesomeness that is Arcanum, I was wondering what other games do you all think are great? I'm always looking for something new to waste my time on - so anything that you've particularly enjoyed I'd like to hear about.

For me no matter what games I play, I typically end up playing Arcanum or Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines at some point during the course of a year; they're just so expansive I still find them immensely enjoyable even after so much time. Apart from that I like roleplaying games the best, old ones or new ones I don't really care, I find them much more engaging than your average game due to the fact it feels like you're actually making an impact on the fictional world that you're immersed in. The roleplaying games I've played that I can remember are Fallout 1, Fable 2, KotOR, the Witcher, Diablo II, Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX, Icewindale II, Dungeon Siege II and (please don't hurt me) Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

I know there's a distinct amount of loathing for Obsidian's take on fallout series here, but I actually really enjoyed Fallout: New Vegas. It's a vast improvement in terms of story than Fallout 3, and the humour is overall quite improved too (though it's still not as amusing as Arcanum, Vampire or the original Fallout). I know it's a bit of a sin that I haven't played properly on Fallout 2 yet, to be honest I found the whole tribal thing a bit off putting right at the start, but I'm resolved to give it a good play through fairly soon as it seems like once past the whole tribal malarkey everyone loves the game.

Apart from roleplaying games I'll give anything a go really, the only exception being hardcore sports games which I detest. Games that I've really enjoyed are Rome: Total War, Medieval II: Total War, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Mariokart Wii, Donkey Kong County Returns, Red Dead Redemption, Super Mario Galaxy I and II, Black and White and just recently I bought Portal 2 which was great though a bit short lived. I'm not a massive fan of straight up FPS games, though when I played through the original Call of Duty I thought that was fun - I'm just not keen on any on the newer incarnations of the Call of Duty series from what I've seen.

Occaisonally I'll go back and play some really old games like Dungeon Keeper (I or II), Theme Hospital or the 1st Rollercoaster Tycoon because those are the games I find most nostalgic. Pokémon is quite enjoyable too (though it's called a roleplaying game but I never really feel like it is), and I know you're probably going to say "What are you like eight?" but I don't know there's something about meticulously planning a team that appeals to me.

So there you have it, I know you didn't ask for it but there's the list of games I love! As I said I'm mainly just interested in hearing what you like so I can find some other gems to sink my time into. Go ahead, tell me what games you love.

Wall of text deals nine damage. You're bloodied.

Lessee... Arcanum and V:tMB (obviously). I've recently finished a quick playthrough of both Mass Effect games (ME2 had a horrible targetting system, though and bypass minigame, though), and I quite liked them. Other WRPGs I like include Baldur's Gate (I & II), the Fallout series, the Wizardry Series, Shadowrun and a couple of old (DOS) D&D games. For some reason I couldn't really get into Planescape Torment or Morrowind, though. Dunno why.

JRPGs then. Persona 4 has rapidly become one of my favorites, among such legends as Final Fantasy V, VI, VIII, Tactics, Chrono Trigger, Front Mission and Dark Law: Meaning of Death. I don't really get the obsession with FF:VII, though. VI had better story and VIII had better visuals.

Other then that I like some old (action-)platformers like the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro trilogies. Shooter wise, I'm really picky and haven't liked anything much past, say, UT2004.

Basically as long as it isn't a racer, I'll play it, though I might not like it.

...Ooh, System Shock 2, that was a fun game.

Whoa I had no idea they'd made Shadowrun into a video game, I've not read much into the actual roleplaying game but from what I've heard of the setting it sounds very cool. I might give that a look at some point.

I always thought Final Fantasy IX was the best, I dug the whole medieval setting and also the fact that they were brave enough to include things like aliens. I never really got why people loved Final Fantasy VII either, not that Cloud wasn't pretty cool with his enormous sword.

Spyro and Unreal Tournament, also very good. Another game I really loved from way back when was Vagrant Story (back when Square Enix was Square Soft). Pity it was never followed up with a sequel really.

NHL 2011 is a pretty fun game on the ps3. FIFA 10 is good too not to mention most Madden games. Personal favourites would be of course Jonah Lomu rugby on the playstation one. I'm fairly certain that came out on the PC too.

Ha that's funny because I said I didn't like sports games, just great. Still if I was going to enjoy a sports game it would be about ice hockey, seems pretty brutal.

Here's the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun_(2007_video_game) link about it, enjoy! Looks like it's primarily a first person shooter.

EDIT: Any idea why the url stuff isn't working? The link's perfectly fine I've checked it.

If you want to play a Shadowrun game I highly suggest you play the SNES one instead.

Ever since Zanza became a Lord, the forum tags have been borked.

Now, I'm not saying there IS a connection between those two things. Nor am I saying that there is NOT a connection. I am just pointing it out.

The forum is unable to properly display/convert links with brackets. Nothing new here.

I wasn't aware of this, I'll just edit the original post, I'm sure people here are capable enough to copy and paste the link themselves... maybe.

If you are bloodied after just 9 damage youre doing it wrong. Add your con SCORE to starting hp, not con mod.

You should play Planescape: Torment. Best. Game. Ever!

As for shadowrun games avoid the pc/xbox one and play either the genesis or SNES one. Genesis I felt was closer to the pnp game, SNES had a better story.

The indie scene can also produce some fun stuff. Thinking of Avernum and Iji really brightens my day.

Someone said indie? I recommend Amanita Design. Samorost, Samorost 2 and Machinarium all have a special place in my heart.

Aquaria is also a great indie game. It's a Metroid style game with beautiful high res 2D graphics. Lots of exploration and no hand holding.

Personally I prefer VtM:Redemption to Bloodlines. I could never really get into Bloodlines for some reason. Seconding Terraria. For a space rougelike-like Transcendence can be fun.
