I know that there are old posts about this, I have searched them already and read them. ^_^ However, I still have a question. I have 18 CHA, maxed out persuation, and I'd like Tarant and Caladon to prosper. Do I do this by picking the "middle" answers? (aka, Tarant and Caladon split railroad control, you can have unions with limited rights, etc.)

The idea is to have something reasonable on each side. In my opinion it is best to do just into the limits of Mr Willoughsby so that Caladon accept and Mr Willoughsby isn't angry. SAVE first.

So I was right? To do the thing that's good (but not great) for both of them, instead of an extreme choice in favor of one or the other?

I didn't SAVE FIRST, and I got a bad result.
You'll get paid anyway, the difference lies in wether he'll train you as a Master of Persuasion or not.

Alas, I didn't become Master of Persuassion ... but neither did he ever have another conversation after that one.

I found it interesting that the Expert at persuasion was a prostitute and the master a Politician ... (things that make you go mmhhhh....)

Best result for Tarant are all the first options actually.

That'll get you the Ambassador to Tarrant reputation as well (Boosts your rep all across the game).

It also results in a good outcome for both nations.

I'll try it if I ever play it again.

    Thanks.
