Yup, those little fuckers are quite horrible. It's extremely rare for them to attack people though. I'd be more worried with ticks myself; they're plentiful, many of them carry Lyme disease and thanks to global warming, they survive here in the North as well.

Bot flies are among the most insidious of insects. Always shooting eggs into other living things' bodies, producing the most disgusting of ailments known to modern medical science. The ones that lay eggs in people's skin produce maggots with bristles that allow them to be securely wedged in your dermis. Duct tape over a layer of vaseline will suffocate the bastards and allow you to pull them out.
