So I was reading a site a day or two ago, when I came across a little news item and a link to this thread - http://pub98.ezboard.com/fbrellrantsfrm13.showMessageRange?start=1&stop=20&topicID=917.topic - which many people are claiming is the best thread ever. Helps if you understand EQ (I don't, but I still managed to get it), and it's probably funnier if you do.

I'm pretty skeptical about this being the funniest thread ever. Intellectualy I know it's funny, but I didn't laugh when I read it. Read to page 8 to understand the whole deal. It's quite twisty and turny, so if you're confused, I guess I can explain it. I'm not going to wreck it for anyone though.

Ive played EQ for 3 years, and this is nothing. I wanted to MQ my epic quest (Im a mage) and WHAM 120k for a crown down the drain, this guy doesnt know pain.

As for the funny, it wasnt, just really really sad.

    That thread's 73 pages long!

Since I couldn't even make it through the first post, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that it is not the funniest thread ever.

Okay, summary for all you lazy slobs (I only read the first 8 pages myself).

First guy is looking to trade for something. Someone tells him they can set him up with someone else who has that item. They make contact, first guy hands over money, other person disappears.

Now, try and keep track, because this is confusing. First guy posts on the boards, telling of his experience. Person he initially made contact with appears and starts proclaiming their innocence, because the person who ripped off the first guy was playing his roommate's character. Someone suggested that the first guy report this to Vivendi so they can trace what's happened.

At this point a friend of the second person (one who set up the deal, but didn't do the ripping off) shows up and starts supporting her. People question his involvement, and he says that he and his friend (the second person) are going to pay the first guy back and get the money back from the guy who ripped him off, because they know him in real life.

At this point, people on the board start getting suspicious, the second and third people start trying to defend themselves, and changing their stories. Eventually the truth comes out - the second person, the third person, the person who did the rip-off using him roommate's character and the roommate ARE ALL THE SAME PERSON! The third guy was trying to hide behind the reputation he'd built up on that character, and figured he'd scam some sucker using one of his alter egos. He panicked when he heard that Vivendi could trace what had really happened. People had started to theorise this, but the coffin was nailed when the third guy posted as the second person. Game over.

Like I said, confusing. If you want it explained better, READ THE THREAD!

That doesn't even match up to the average thread here, let alone one of Milo's stories or MrNobodie's laugh in.

Milo's (I think) horrible ethnic foods thread had me rolling around on the floor. That was funny.

I don't know what's most troubling. The guy who freaks so much over a game, or the 4-split personalities person who goes to incredible lengths to try and defend him/herself. I'd say, the split-personality person, trying to get away clean by using his good name and standing, along with a "little brother excuse".

I think the thread was funny, because of the turn things took, and the plot slowly thickened as the thread went on, revealing what was really going on. I think some of these people should try playing something else once in a while.

    Gemstones = Dick Fuckin' Tracy

That was probably the funniest thing in the thread. But yes, Fatman is right - doesn't match up to our threads :).

They're EQ players - all they do is play EQ and post at the boards. Real life is an inconvenience.

    HEY!!! I PLAY EVERQUEST!!!

Seriously, the amount of time it takes to get to the level he was at in Real Life would be AT LEAST 6 to 8 months.

When you get into EQ you put a lot of time and money into it, which makes it all the more fun/disgusting.

I play, its fun, but Real life is more of a priority!! And I have discovered Arcanum!!!

Ah, but I've built this count up over a year. Besides, I know people with many more posts than me at other boards. The amount of spamming there is incredible though - most posts are limited to insults or one-liners about whether a given item is good or bad.

Besides, I only spend an hour or so cruising the boards each day. This thread spawned who knows how many pages in less than a week.

there were a couple funny spots in there but you had to work really hard to get to them.

Mostly the whole thing just turned me off to ever playing everquest, hey if I'm gonna act that stupid I want large quantities of alcohol involved.

I've seen a few cases like this back when i played Diablo 2 reguarly on battle.net. Same story basically, they foolishly trusted the person with something and got fucked, and then whine about it.

There was a thread once (long ago) where a guy went crazy and spammed all over the board with very profane posts about how he had bought an item off of eBay for more than 100$, and supposedly got it "stolen" by one of the seller's companions shortly after he recieved it. The funny thing there however, was the guy spending 100 genuine $ buying a few kilobytes, residing on a server he didn't own some 500 miles away.
