I used to have a summoning magick elf... why is it that the third spell in summoning made a 20x better creature then the fourth spell... I could litteraly kill anything with the third spell because it was strong and fast.

Because your magick aptitude probably went higher.
The higher it goes - the more effective your spells are, the more chance of critical failure will be added by wearing tech items and the more effective will all the magickal items be ("Magick power available 100%").

The third summoning spell is summon ogre berserker, the fourth is summon demon. The ogre is actually a better fighter, I think it may be becuase ogres are more fleshed out, you don't really encounter many demons and the ones you do just growl and slash with their claws. The ogres have a more developed cmbat AI.

Magical apptitude affects the type of familiar you get with the fifth spell. Immediately after casting you will want to hold down Alt and beat the damn thing to death so that the wing flapping sound effect stops.

Its been a while, but I seen to remember that its always the flapping thing, just with different names and varying degrees of power.

No such thing. If you summon a familiar, there's always that god damned flapping sound that persists in combat and peace and even when you're doing Bell.

Mother-FUCKER!! I just want a goddamn cat for my familiar! Was that REALLY so much to ask, oh mighty developers? Flapping little fuckers with hideous sound effects are not my thing! (I love my Arcane Trickster and her cat. That cat once killed a friggin' Orc Barbarian Chief single handed... er, pawed.)

Yeah, they flopped on the familiar spell bad. It was a chance to get some more individuality in the game. Hell, even BG2 gave familiars based on alignment. Yes, they were faggoty options for a familiar, especially the fairy dragon for good folks, but at least it wasn't the same damned thing over and over. Oh, and it didn't make an annoying sound all the time.
And I could shove it in my backpack when I was tired of it.

Hell most of the BG2 familiars, you didn't chuck 'em in your backback you could say goodbye to them and to a point of your constitution too. Now that encouraged people to actually try to protect their familiars. In 3.5, I have seen people use their familiars as sacrificial bait! Ugh...

Never used familiars in 3.5. I usually went with the trait (or was it a flaw?) that gave you an extra bonus feat instead of the ability to summon a familiar.

I don't know how it is in other RPG's, but did'nt you lose some of your hit points, if your familiar got killed?

Well, we all know that a first-level adventurer has no chance against a housecat.

Of course, there's always NWN's familiars and their Drizzt fetish.

*makes a gagging noise* If I ever meet R.A. Salatore, I will make him pay for two things.

    Thing One: Drizzt.

Thing Two: HE KILLED CHEWBACCA! RAR!

    He killed Chewie? Motherfucker.

I actually like Salvatore's "Homeland". A couple of others I read were mostly crap.

    1. Drizzt kills monster.
    2. Drizzt loses friend.
    3. Drizzt feels unwarranted self pity.
    4. Drizzt rediscovers friend.
    5. Drizzt feels more unwarranted self pity for no apparent reason.
Repeat steps 1 through 5 at least once (sometimes more) per book and you've got a summary for the entire saga.

Yes, yes he did. Star Wars fans apparently have a price on his head. Even I'm pissed about Chewie, and I'm hardly a hardcore SW gal. (I much prefer Star Trek.)
