stuck in the main plot situation is about bates and appleby

hi there, i've been using the forums for a while but it's my first post. Also i've read the forum rules and now i am not sure if am grave digging here but forgive me if I do so. If want to go ahead to my question, read the post after the arrowed paragraph.

I've been playing arcanum time to time for 4 years, but never finished it because my english wasn't enough to understand game completely and ı have used a turkish walkthrough but it was a strait walkthrough without explaining opportunities.

i've searched the forums and found some topics about my situation but ı coundn't find the answer i need.

==>I've talked to appleby after completing P. Schulyer and Sons quest and got servant clothes left virgil outside and ı went through the main door, talked with bates, he pointed b.m mines but after that i break in to the back door and got bates journal, sold it to appleby.

Now ı got back to tarant form b.m. mines where problem occurs;

1. I cant find bates (i mean its ok, his guards are attacking me, ı kill them all but bates not in his mention.)

Do i have to find bates or do i have to find my way to isle of despair. In my previous games i've always worked with bates and i don't know what to do now (can't find the answer from this sites walkthrough or forums)

2.if can find bates again where should ı look?

3.is it a bug?

edit: ı'm using 1.0.7.4 + A:WIP patches.

 

That's quite normal. Bates is alive and well, but chose to be hidden after the whole truth revealing affair so you will never see him again. He will, however, send bounty hunters to give you his kind regards.

As for getting to the Isle of Despair, working for Bates isn't necessary. Edward Teach should take you there anyway in return for a monetary fee, if I recall correctly.

If I recall correctly, Teach charges you five hundred gold.
