Well, obviously this is a tactic by the military influences in the Chinese government to help quell potential resistance in the Tibet area and among its sympathizers. However, the whole thing just makes me laugh.

Aside from the fact that this is a cloaked blow against unstable elements of rebellion in a subjugated nation, the whole premise is godly in its hilarity.

Naturally, any living Buddhas would rather avoid the Chinese government than give up their status/political position (especially those with "factional" ties), and the next Dalai Lama will be no exception. ...It's still DAMN funny, though.

So, while his position IS strengthened by indirectly opposing China, my implication was that directly opposing China would be far from his list of priorities.
