I threw the evil sword into the furnace...but my journal doesn't recognize the act. And going back to Pete to tell him doesn't work either. How do I get the game to acknowledge that the quest is done? I tried to kil Pete, but he kicks my butt. (This is the only part of the game I've regretted the fact I'm traveling alone).
It seems that sometimes Arcanum doesn't record your journal entries. Are you CERTAIN that your most recent save has a journal entry concerning the destruction of the Scourge?? If so, I suggest you load a game that preceded the Scourge's destruction and try running the quest again. Perhaps the correct trigger didn't go off for some obscure reason. Barring that, I can only advise you to take another route in attaining a ship or re-installing and patching the game (or re-patching, as the case may be). If you are a magicker, one character point into conveyance school will give you the disarm spell. Using this simple spell on Stringy Pete and his motley crew renders them harmless as long as you can cast it on all of them before they hack you into icky kibble. Might I suggest quaffing a haste potion before starting the battle??
If you are a magicker, one character point into conveyance school will give you the disarm spell. Using this simple spell on Stringy Pete and his motley crew renders them harmless as long as you can cast it on all of them before they hack you into icky kibble. This doesn't really works. I've tried it and I have like 7 followers. My suggestion: If u have no followers and need to kill him, get an stillwater blade then get to the ship, cast a wall of force between the skeleton and the ship so that he can't harm you and finally cast beasts using your blade. It takes long but is an easy, safe way to do it.
I've never used a Stillwater blade but I've got this feeling that the little beasties it summons would perish faster than you can say, "GINSU SLICE!" If you are wearing halfway decent armor and you are facing a disarmed Stringy Pete and friends, most of their critical hits won't be more that 1 HP. Besides, wall of force requires 3 character points in force magic as well as 12 willpower. That's not to mention the fatigue drain that you will have to sustain for about a quarter of an hour real time.
Try using it sometime, with a mage with 100 MA. Or at least familiarize yourself with the spell, "Succour Beast".
I admit that I haven't really fiddled with either of those things, Canis, but come on! Stringy Pete and his uber-skeletons have got to be the toughest creatures in the game -- they have a better damage/time ratio than maxed Dog and somewhere around 90% resistance to damage, and there are 6 or 7 of them to boot. I can't see any single thing standing up to them -- armed -- for more than a round or two, be it cute, fuzzy vorpal bunny or Stillwater giant.
I read somewhere that you can cast body of earth(the one turns you into an earth elemental) on someone they drop thier equipment without going hostile. Or you can just Disentegrate them.
