Welcome to the Forum clabbe! 1. Your firearms skills are not depeding on your gunsmithy. 2. You can find some "home made" guns in the possesion of npc in the game. The best is the looking glass rifle but that depends if you patched the game or not. The second best is a rifle found at the vendigroth wastes, but that is pretty much at the end of the game. The best you can buy is probably the clarington rifle. 3.Dwarven steel can be found in the Wheel Clan. You can Also buy it there.
Yes, although having gun smithy means better guns. The best gun I've found so far without making it myself is an elephant gun. Try the Wheel Clan dwarves or the shop in Tarant that has both the woman that sells healing stuff and the guy who sells the stuff to make items out of. You can buy dwarven steel from the Wheel clan dwarves, I also found two dwarven steels in the dredge.
There's also dwarven steel in the BMC mines... I think someone is going for automaton's :smile:. Go for 'em son. They're brilliant.
