After Russia lost 2 people died several were injured, lots of goods destroyed.

Now Italy lost and there were riots. Idiots just can't understand that no one is to blame but their very own players who screwed about 4 situations in which they could easily score. However the King Moron is Italian coach who said the Korean player who eliminated Italy has nothing to look for in Italy anymore.

What's next? "Since you eliminated our team we declare war on your country."

PSA: Oh yeah, I'm not saying everyone in these countries is a moron unfortunately mostly such people are shown in the news.

How about the english coach who got sacked before keegan? He said something along the lines of "those who are born handicap are paying for crimes of their past lives" or something like that.

There are crazy weird people everwhere, look around this forum, I'm sure you'll find more than one here.

I think football does strange things to the way people think. It can't be healthy focusing all of your energy, attention, hopes and dreams on the sporting achievements of a group of people you've never met.

I really do think that if Marx was alive today, he'd be calling football the opiate of the masses.

Sheriff, if winning a single game decided whether you got or not that 50 k, I think it would really alter your way of thinking...

Are you talking about the players? I can understand how they are entirely focused on winning. The fans, though, wheres does their 50k equivalent come from? They don't get any money. They don't get anything. All their benefits are entirely contrived.

No Sheriff, I'm talking about us fans, fans are a big part of team effort. We feel like part of the team, by cheering on our team, we earn the money as well. It's a psychological concept of mine. We believe.. And that's why we get so angry when we fail...

Some people are interested solely in getting into riots regardless of the outcome - the match is just an excuse. I've known such people personally. They went to a football game and waited only for the fights to start. Perhaps the fact that their team lost makes them consider themselves avenging patriots but it's bullshit. If their team won they'd get drunk and go on rampage anyway (though probably they wouldn't destroy as much.

Yeah, but I still don't see how your comment about 50k fits in. How do the fans get 50k out of their team winning? If they don't, then how does your earlier comment relate to fans?

I think Dragoon has a point about the rioters.

Even if the rioters are angry fans, they're not acting in their team's best interest when they riot. English clubs were banned from Eurpoean competitions at one point because of the fans' bad behaviour. TRUE fans would do what is best for the team, not go on some self-indulgent tantrum.

S_F, people bet money. ;) Rioting is idiotic... but ya can't help it. Although I do not see how a country has a loss when its team loses a sports game. And I don't see how 'like a man' fits here... that's an indefinite concept.

Yes you can - you "just" have to make it obvious that it is a crime like any other and the fact you are in a group will not let you avoid responsibility for your actions (in most cases at least).

Let's see - it's acknowledging that other people are not to blame because they won - it's your team that lost.

My GOD! Jinxed bet 50k on Poland winning? Hang on, that can't be right. Was it the rioters who bet 50k? Ahhh, I just don't get it.

To "take it like a man" is a figure of speech in English that you may not know since you speak it as a second language. It means to take something stoically. In other words, swallow it and get on with things, not throw a temper tantrum like a child.

I believe Dragoon used it because, the rioters essentially threw a big, violent temper tantrum. They didn't have the self-control, or robustness of ego to swallow the defeat and get on with something worthwhile. In that sense, Dragoon's use of the phrase was pretty apt.

I always thought "taking it like a man" refered to getting sodomized.

Speaking of bad losers I heard in the radio that one of Korea’s attackers played in Italy and was fired, because he “humiliated the country that had treated him so well. I am not sure that I got the story right since I only got half the news. Has anyone heard about it?

I thought that it was one of Brazil's players. He normally plays for an Italian team, but he is Brazilian in nationallity so played for his nations team in the world cup. However, he scored a goal against Italy in the cup and so was fired from his Italian team!

It really sucks that people should be punished for being patriotic to their country!

No it was a S Korean. Besides national pride has its limits I mean the Brazilian players in Italy are too good to give up.

The only people who riot over here are the ethnic minorities after a soccer match...the Italians down in Melbourne rioted in a small area...When it comes to the big matches here though, there aren't riots when your team loses...I've never understood why people riot in their home city...why fuck up the place where you live? Trashing your suburb doesn't sound like the smartest plan to me. You might as well go home and piss in your living room and smear shit all over the walls, and save the rest of the city the time and effort it takes to control the riot and clear up the mess afterwards.

Then again, the madness of a riot has never come over me...
