The most important two spells are:

Harm (black necromany level one) - very powerful, not much fatigue.

Stun (mental - level 2) for creatures that are a bit too strong just keep stunning them so they never get a hit on you.

other than that it's up to you, but unlocking cantrip (conveyence level 2) is useful and it's good to have some stuff to summon if you need it eg. elementals.

Also get your constitution up till you get a heal rate of 4, then steal the amulet of N'Tala from the elf in Stillwater. This will give you a heal rate of 6, meaning there will not be a single spell you can't maintain indefinately - even invisibility.
Dexeterity and dodge are also useful. Melee is not needed if you get offensive spells and the Dog follower. Keep virgil and you don't need to bother will heal spells.

Thanx alot. I was thinking about melee ,dodge and the whole of temporal, halt poison ,minor healing and fireflash. I personally like fireflash very much. Do you guys think my idea is good? And by the way how does some1 deal with a crowd of monsters other then using fireflash?

In fact, Harm is a fairly weak spell if you have a low magical aptitude. With a very high magical aptitude, its damage can reach 40 per cast... for only 6 fat. hmmmmm

My current character is a halfling fighter/thief/mage.

Master melee, dodge, backstab, lockpick, pickpocket.

Learned all temporal spells, working towards teleport right now.

I don't have any damage spells, I use Haste + Backstab. With agility at 20+ it's pretty sick. Plus I can throw Haste on the Dog if needed.

It's a fun character, I like the thieving part of the game and can still go toe-to-toe in tough fights.
    He's a fun character.

Harm and Fireflash are fine and I have used this school of magic; but for my style of playing I prefer Lightning
Bolt and Disintigration (even over Quench Life). With a dozen or so fatigue potions and Mastery in Force, 25 points to vanquish an ore golem isn't bad. The only downside is your loot off that particular monster get disintigrated too.

Wow! I kinda think that Disintegrate is just a leeetle bit overkill on most things.

Hmmm, hello Ailing Wolf, what should I kill you with today? I know I'll disintegrate you! :minigun:

But if you get mastery of Force, you get Disintegrate for 25FT, which can be quite useful in the void. - ADDED: oops just noticed you said that bit! /ADDED
