   I want a techie character, and to advance in the tech ranks i need intellegence. So I wasa wondering if I should raise my intellegence with character points, or just use an essence of intellect.

   Depends if you want to use skills that depend on intelligence, such as healing or gambling. If not, I suppose that you would be just fine wih 9 intelligence and an addiction to those essences. Those 10 points invested elsewhere can make a difference you know.

   Yeah, but you just could raise it to 12 and become expert in healing and gambling and then use the essence of intellect. Trust me the game is cool from that point
