    Saddam Hussein 'arrested in Iraq'

Ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested in Iraq, according to an unconfirmed report.
The former Iraqi leader was detained in his ancestral home town of Tikrit, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

The US Defence Department said it had no confirmation of the report.

Saddam Hussein is the most wanted man on the list issued by US authorities but has not been seen since Baghdad fell to US forces in April.

Breaking news with no news. Seriously watch the video, so far this information is based on "Kurdish units rumours", and no other info is really given in that 3.57min video report.

Well, first reports came from Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabiya and Iranian state TV- hardly the sources that will rejoice over Saddam's capture. So far I tend to trust this- but we'll see how it goes, of course.

Thank god. I had given up any hope of finding him. I figured he was living in a condo by the beach somewhere along the French Riviera.

Yes its good that they caught him, he did cause a lot of pain and suffering, but the fact that bush was so rapped up in it always seemed to me to be because he wanted to clear up his family name, following his fathers failed attempt.

I like how Saddam looked like Santa Claus. Right around Christmas too. Coincidence? I think not!

Yes I am in agreement with Jinxed, kinda reminds me of the time my English Teacher wandered the school brandishing a club.

I love how the Iraqis were all rejoicing and firing off shots in the streets, yelling anti-Saddam slogans, etc. Let's hope this will stop the idiots who claim that the Iraqis "never wanted to be liberated." Oh, and he did look uncannily like Santa Claus...perhaps the black sheep of the family?

You're watching Fox News, aren't you?

Some are celebrating. Some are yelling pro-Saddam slogans and attacking Americans just like the other day. Now I'm not saying it's no good Saddam's out of power, but let's not pretend all the Iraqis, or even a vast majority, are glad we're there. The general reaction has been that they are glad he's gone, but hate Americans even more for damaging their pride.

Both of you shut up, if you're not in iraq, then just shut up. How do either of you know the true feelings of the iraqi people? I'm just glad the dictator's gone, but i fear we may empower a new one in the future.

It probably depends on where you are in the country. And what kind of people is the mayority in the special areas. I doubt they are too happy in tikrit.

OK Sleek, I get your point, but if we follow that to its logical conclusion, we can't form opnions on anywhere where we currently are not. At the moment I'm in my apartment, so I cannot have opinions about what's happening across town, which at the moment is as distant from me as Iraq. It will be until I go there later this aftyernoon.

Since I used to work at Radio Liberty, many of my firends are journalists for Radio Free Iraq, Persia, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, etc. They don't live in those places, but their families do. Their families are anti-Saddam, sure, but they report that many of their neighbors (from many cities) are not, or rather that they are more anti-U.S. than they are anti-Saddam. It's a matter of cultural pride. The man is horrid, but he made them feel strong. The ones who hate him are sadly mostly just those who were directly affected by his cruelty.

You're right, he was just a decent guy who made people feel so proud about their country.

Oh yeah, by the way, he tested his chemical weapons on them, and invaded a neighboring country and when we attacked he set fire to oil refineries, which burned for months, releasing huge amounts of pollutants, but yeah... forget I said that.

The caveman is just a bastard but still he refuses to talk and I don't think that we will ever see the weapons of mass destruction.
