Real time combat a joke? All combat a joke?!

Hi,

Does anyone play with RT combat? I found that I could just run around having enemies chase me while the Dog just follows and attacks them until they're dead. For some reason they won't attack the dog or use ranged attacks (unless they have bows). I cleared out most of the Vel. ruins this way... silly.

Also, are there any enemies that use tech like guns or grenades? Or any that even use magic? I'm playing with the AWIP. All they do is run up to me and start whacking me, and then I stand there at point blank range and miss them with my pistol or do measly damage, and then the Dog closes in and kills them with 1 or 2 hits (this is at Hard Difficulty). (this in in turn-based mode)

Have you done any modding/hacking to your character? I avoid real-time out of a belief that turn based 1) gives me a chance to think/plan and 2) it's more enjoyable, however, I never found real time to be severely unbalanced.

 

I don't keep Dog in my party if I plan on playing a melee character. He often lands many more hits, and amasses more kills than the player character, and so saps the experience you gain, limiting your power gains. That said, I even make sure all my humanoid followers have worse weapons than me, so they don't dominate battles either.

Some enemies use ranged attacks, magic and such, but regardless of the few ranged enemies, magic users will attack you with melee in-between casting spells. Sometimes they just don't cast spells, however. This has been true in most modules I've played, but I don't know the reason behind such.

 

Some playthroughs I play real time, some turn and some mixes but I tend not to exlpoit the modes such as the mentioned runaway while follower kills or the using a corner as cover.

It is only a joke if you exploit it/deliberately overpower yourself, I find underpowering yourself more fun.

 

I play real-time combat exclusively and compulsively, and have not found it to be a joke. Then again, I have not exploited it to the extent that others have. The most I've manipulated real-time combat is to spam the F5 command so that I reap all the XP.

Minuous has given me pause to think about something I've never considered before...I do not have to accept Dog into my party! I can use public transportation again!

 

If you had dog with you and they were included in the game do you think you could use public restrooms?

The problem with the systems are that they are easily abused. If you have the self control that some seem to be lacking in then they are not a joke
