My character is a gunsmith/firearms expert with an (evidently) ranged focus and a fine revolver. However, I find that whenever I enter Real-Time combat mood with my character (within which my high firearms stat and high weapon speed are put to their optimal use) he will close to melee range with an designated enemy and try to point-blank them with his revolver, as opposed to remaining a fairly safe distance away and cutting them down from there. Is this a bug, or just an inherent flaw in the RT-combat engine? Is there anyway to counteract or prevent this?
From my observation, the AI for ranged attackers in Arcanum works this way: when they have a clear shot at the start of the combat, they will stand where they are and shoot. If they can't get a clear shot, they will close in to melee distance and shoot at them from point blank range. It works like that in turn based combat as well.
