A question for the noble forum. I'm playing as a dwarf with tech skills. My lock picking skill is 2 and I'm trained as an apprentice. It seems that I cannot open almost anything. At all. Some times, very, very rarely in 1 out of 8-9 attempts I can open something really simle (like a door or chest with the stats 30/30) but in most cases the lock just jums. I have a crude lockpick. I also cannot force the locked objects to open. Bashing them up does nothing. Is such a behaviour an expected one or am I doing something wrong? I would greatly appreciate your feedback. By the way those numbers for the locks in the lower righthand corner - what do they mean?
It's just a part of the game. Lockpicking was pretty much useless for me until I got 3+ points and Expert training in it. You can try holding a lantern in your shield hand. This should increase your chance of picking the lock a little. And the numbers in the lower right-hand corner are the hit points of the object. For example a door might have something like "70/70". That means you have to do 70 damage to it in order to break it down. Same thing goes w/lanterns, chests, windows.
plus picking up better lockpicks will help a lot. general stores occasionally carry them. upgrading to autolockpick is even better (mech discipline) ~Aldin
Thank you, gentelmen. Would you be also so kind as to point me to a location where I would be able to get an expert training in lock picking?
I just started the game and I just got to Tarant. I thought that in a big city as Tarant there will be someone who can provide and expert training in picking up the locks.
supplement question I'm my character is technically a mage. But if i allocate a lot of points in my dexterity and pick locks (probably training to be a master) would it affect my lock picking skill since my character is a high level mage?
