For the Autolevel schemes editing instructions on Terra Arcanum, do I have to start a new game? (Well, the author is from here, actually, so thanks to Zewy) I've already gotten the level 127 hack, and tried to edit the xp_level.mes but it doesn't work. I currently "should" have version 1.0.7.4, but I haven't found an in-game way to test it. Just the fact that I've used the patch and it says it worked. I've put the file gamelevel.mes in the data/rules directory. The instruction also mentions a file called gamelevelname.mes being placed in data/mes, so I tried that too, but neither works with my current saved game. I've tried searching, but couldn't find anyone who had problems with the auto-level scheme.
It may work . You see if you change the npc scheme the npc will start investing in the new scheme. They will not unspent all their points and then spent them on the new scheme.
I'm level 47, about one rat away from level 48. I've tried the mes files but it doesn't seem to work. What I do is, I start the game, gain level, and if Virgil gains 6 hp, then I know he's not following his new scheme. Virgil, being human, have maximum stats of 20 right? so right now, this is his scheme: {91}Virgil {Firearms 20, necro_good 1, Heal 4, MaxHPS 36, Dodge 4, Melee 4, Picklock 4, Dodge 4, Melee 8, necro_good 2, Heal 8, Dodge 8, MaxHPS 62, Melee 12, necro_good 3, Heal 12, Picklock 8, Dodge 12, MaxHPS 90, Melee 16, necro_good 4, Heal 16, Dodge 16, MaxHPS 106, Melee 20, Heal 20, Picklock 12, Dodge 20, dx 20, Picklock 16, st 20, Picklock 20, MaxHPS 200} I know he used the last point on HP, so I've added a little bit after Dodge 20 and before MaxHPS 200. I've also tried editing the xp_level.mes so it needs only 1 xp for the first 10 levels. That didn't work either when I restarted a new game to test Virgil's scheme... (which is why Firearms 20 is there)
There are 2 Virgil schemes. The normal one and the zen virgil. Are you sure that you edited the correct one ?
As I've mentioned in a previous post (http://www.terra-arcanum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=10407), the Virgil auto-level scheme has a bug in it that should be obvious. There is NO other auto-level scheme that includes the same level twice like Virgil's does for Dodge 4, so it seems obvious to this old programmer that someone made a typo. I have made the correction to that scheme that leaves him otherwise unchanged except for giving him necro_good 5 or, my preferred version, if you have difficulties with him getting in your way whenever you try to pick a lock and being a general wimp with respect to strength, you can substitute ST for picklocks as I did. I have NOT found this latter change to significantly alter his character's personality, MA or behaviour in the game except for the fact that he can finally use some of the better swords and maces and he stays out of my way. He still whines about things, gets killed off quite easily and in general acts like Virgil. Details for both auto-level schemes are in the other post. NOTE: Don't add too much to the end of an auto-level scheme or it may cause the game engine to simply ignore it. If there is any kind of syntax error at all in one, it will be ignored.
I assume that since he is level 47 he has Zen Virgil, and if I recollect the problem was in regular Virgil. So if he edited Virgil's scheme then his next game, when he has regular Virgil that scheme would be used, but for now he would need to change Zen Virgil's if he wanted any sort of effect.
That's not necessarily the case, Blinky. It all depends on where in the storyline he is with his characters. I've had Virgil higher than that before going to T'sen Ang, so he can still be regular Virgil at that level. Only ZirePhoenix knows for sure, and so far I don't see any replies from him about any of this. It would be nice to know if any of this helped.
