Yeah well flame wars are nothing, what concerns me more is that it's gunna be somethin like worldwar, and Russia is siding with usa, and that isn't right at all. But in even the worst moments hearing Bush's speech makes me laugh!

 

Are they bombing the cities ? No TV here dammit.

 

From waht I heard they're bombing terrorist train bases (go figure). A building which says Terrorist Training haha! I don't think they're up to take out all the Afganistan just yet, just the more military compounds.

 

Somehow I feel this will not be the end of international terrorism

I've been watching the news since this morning. Since the World Trade Center/Pentagon really.

I'm interested in hearing how America striking terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan is stupid. If they're stupid, then you might as well toss that same judgement on Great Britain. They had SAS ground troops there ready to go, and support the fight against terrorism.

 

Well, it's logical of course in a way but the fundamentalist group is worldwide. The CIA know their stuff you know. They helped Bin Laden setup his whole recruiting system back in the 80's ranging from the phillipines to western africa.
All for a good cause ofcourse: fighting the evil red devil commie menace.

 

All of this isn't making much sesnse. I'm on neither side, but i don't know much about actions of Afganistan, and I don't think it really did that much. But one decision after another to go to war is just way too much. And that almost all of USA voted pro-war is just beyond stupid. Like herd of sheepes stampeding.

 

In that case you should be able to form an informed opinion.
Sheepes is after your field of expertise.

It could be argued that the US's main mistake in the whole Soviet/Afghan war was how they left Afghanistan after the war was "won". It left the door open for exactly the sort of regime that took power.

I'm far from an expert in foreign policy, but I try my best to keep up. It seems to me that if the US had stuck around and helped rebuild, then at least some of the anti-US sentiment going around in the Middle East could have been averted.

 

The only way to stop terrorism is to start letting long term consequences weigh heavier than short term benefits in foreign policy.

That was my naive statement. International policy is a cynical pisshole where the only thing that counts is creating markets to sell weapons to and keeping the oil supply safe.
