I just thought I would share a story with you all about how I purchased Arcanum. For christmas, my dad bought me Empire Earth because I enjoyed Age of Empires so much. Anyways, on the back of the CD there was an ad for the game and I decided a few months later to go out and buy it at Best-Buy. So I got to the PC games section (I was pretty young, under 13) and I see Arcanum, but right next to it, I see a Nancy Drew game. My dad said, "hey, that might be interesting", and then I got in a stalemate with myself over which game to get. It took me over 30 minutes to still be at the same point until my dad told me to hurry up and that we have to leave soon. I convinced myself that Arcanum was the game I came for and that was what I was going to get, I put Nancy Drew down (thank god) and bought what I beleive to be the best game I've ever played.
I know, seriously. Arcanum doesn't have teenage detectives... why would anyone possibly want to play it? Beats me. Anyway, thescroll, it's good to have you here. If there is any place on the internet where you can find people to help you cope with your unfortunate choice, it's here.
Cope with my unfortunate choice? I choose Arcanum, are You insinuating that Nancy Drew is better? Good day to you sir. But yeah, when I look back on that, I just have to ask myself, "Why would I ever think about that?"
Well, you were pretty honest for saying it. I found out about Arcanum when I played the demo on one of those CDs that come with computer magazine subscriptions. I must have played the demo like 20 times, including trying to get the maximum possible level by killing everyone (Lloyd Gurloes was tough!). I guess I was pretty lucky to have found it, considering that I hardly ever played those things. I went to go buy it at the store and found out that even after a month or so, it wasn't out! So I eagerly awaited the day I could finally find out what a mechanized arachnid looked like.
My brother actually got the game. I remember the day he came home, he said he saw it at K-Mart and bought it because he thought the Dwarf with the gun on the cover was cool
