I was thinking lately, about things I would change in the sequel. What do you guys/gals think? Is there anything you really want to change in Arcanum? Any special things you would be looking for in the sequel?

    OK, I'll risk the flames.
I hope they don't just rush out a sequel. They need to thoroughly test it and get rid of the bugs.
Maybe another cut scene or two, to go along with better graphics.
    And, yes, balance.

Okay, here goes with what I would want...

    1. Make guns do more damage - get them to live up to their descriptions! When I see something like "High Velocity Pistol" I don't expect to get a really crappy pistol that is only slightly better than the fine revolver. The only decent guns in the game are the fine revolver, the Tesla Gun, flamethrower and Droch's Warbringer. Maybe the hand cannon is good, but the above mentioned are better.

    2. Why was the charges schematic under chemisty and not electricity? What the hell are electricians supposed to do for charges when they don't want to spend every other gold piece buying up charges, and don't want to invest in the chemistry tree? Lemons and potatoes are pretty hard to find. Ditto fuel - that should require explosives expertise, not chemistry. Someone who builds a flamethrower most likely isn't going to have the character points to invest in the chemistry discipline - manuals are too heavy to carry around, so what are these people to do?

    3. Improve the damage of bows and daggers. A dagger in the back will kill you pretty quickly, just as quickly as a sword in the back. So give daggers bonuses for backstab or something like that, or make them much faster. Improve bows for mages as well - make sure that they actually do decent damage.

    4. More schematics. You can never have enough schematics, and I honestly felt that there weren't enough cross-discipline schematics.

    5. Make certain spells less effective - 30% DR for a level 1 spell is just giving mages too much of an advantage. Make Disentegrate and Quench Life resistable (or at least easier to resist for NPC's.).

    6. Be able to change your followers levelling scheme. I'm not saying I want to allocate every single point, but being able to change their schemes would be better. Also, make it easier to change the current levelling schemes, having followers not maxing out their technological disciplines is just ridiculous.

    7. Improved graphics wouldn't hurt either.

    8. Smaller interface. I liked the way the current one worked, but I'm not a fan of fullscreen mode, so a smaller interface would be nice.

    9. When scrolling around a map, it's nice not to have a limit on how far you can move the map. There's nothing quite as annoying as trying to see your enemies, but you can't because the screen won't scroll any further.

    10. More followers, and more followers with 'voices'. I really like the voice acting in Arcanum, but I wanted a few more followers with voices. I also thought there wasn't much variation with followers - half of them used the Pure Melee-Dodge scheme. Use some of the other schemes you made. Adding in more followers, and much more voice acting is something I really want.

Now that I think about the ending I am not sure that they intended for there to be an Arcanum 2. But I would sure LOVE for there to be one. I would first have to agree with everyone on the subject of science in arcanum. This feild of study must be made strong and more appealing.

Personally I was fine with the strength of magic you can build as strong or as weak of a mage as you wish. More effective magic using monsters would be great. If the monsters were as smart using magic as the npc followers were the game would have been quite the challenge.

MORE Romance RP choices for BOTH sexes and put some comedy into it. Romance isn't just about sex, one could come up with some pretty funny and entertaining charecter plot twists involving romance in Arcanum's pre-victorain age. (let's see some bearded female dwarfs darn it! (but officer I SWEAR she had a VALE on I never KNEW!))

I LOVED THE GRAPHICS enhance them yes but please don't change the storybook feel and setting of the game.

the reputation system needs serious work :p

More interaction with npc follower's to include playing games with them or sharing jokes to increase responce. Make sure there are visable differences and replies for every emtional level. also more over all control over their combat actions.

include the discovery of plastic in the next game to allow for more light weight tecnology.

Discover 3 new races and include home towns and dwellings for each of them:

Fairies (small glowing folk both with and without wings)

Hawk people that actually have animatied wings and can fly.

Mere-people that can morph their tale fins into legs for walking on land and breading purposes.

Allow the player to create a main charecter from any of the races and start the game or import their old one.

Give players more control over the appearance of their charcter. Things like eye / hair / skin color, height and weight would add to the fun.

Give the player the choice of going out and adventuring or seting up shop in one of the towns or become a law officer and have the weird adventures come to him.

As part of the adventure give the player a chance to do what Arronax did. Create a city in your own image which while you are away adventuring devolopes depending on your interaction with it.

Well that's my Arcanum wish list (oh yeah and get it done before I'm 40!)

That's certainly an imaginative and more progressive list of demands. I disagree with you about the new types of races (although I do think that more is better) and the reputation system. I like it.

I still think an underwater city as part of the world of Arcanum would be cool. Think underwarter tech and submerine battles

A more complete multiplayer game would be my first choice. I realise that the current single-player game is very much a one character story, but I'd like the main story to be playable as a team. Or at least let you keep your equipment in the multiplayer scenarios!!

Otherwise, a graphics overhaul would be nice, as well as a better balance between tech and magick players.

that wouldn'y be very good. That would mean the sequel would start at level 50. Like BG TOB. Because definetly, they would make up more interesting background to chose from, so who would want to import a 1st level character

well if they did it as an expansion add-on type sequel many folks would want to start from the begining to create a new type of charecter or start at 50 and dabel with Godhood, but either way it should be the players choice so add a few prefab 50 charecters in for good measure

I just can't sit passively any more. I have mentioned on several boards that what Arcanum 2 should be is a prequel.

The history of Arcanum has been very well developed. I think a prequel would fit nicely. You could have the dragon knights and have it set during the time of wars between Tarant and Cambria. The PC can cast all of the lost spells that were not present in present Arcanum.

I would like to see a time with just the beginnings of technology. When the PC starts, there is almost no sign of technology but as the game progresses technology starts really impacting the world of Arcanum. Guns, if they exist, should be nothing more than a tube with a fuse lit by the user (no trigger) or possibly matchlocks. Most of the technological weapons would be a little weaker and obsolete in the present world. What I am proposing is instead of a pyrotechnic Axe you get a sharp axe or a fast axe as opposed to the fire damage. I think they could even balance the weaker tech (weaker than Arcanum’s) with Magick. The tech items could even still inherit magic properties because the division between magic and tech will not be as big because it is new.

Basically, I am proposing that since sides were not chosen and tech is not as strong Magick and Tech do not have as much conflict as in the new world. There are things to be ironed out and I am sure everyone will disagree here, but this is my dream Arcanum 2 (or Arcanum –1). I think they could do a lot with this basic idea and can still make more than just a fantasy RPG. Plus if I wanted to play a game just like Arcanum I can just play Arcanum again. Many sequels are the same game with different situations yet it looks and feels the same.

You know, that might actually work . Better yet, they could concentrate more on making your own melee and ranged equipment (swords, axes and bows) on the technological side of things, because that is one area which could do with a few more useful schematics.
