How do you gain magic spells? I am an elf. D'ren Lourer. I have heal minor wound, halt poison, and charm beast. I don't think I started with all those. How do I obtain more magic spells?

Is D'ren Lourer one of the premade characters?

If he is, then I don't think you can choose spells. He automatically picks his own when he levels up. Maybe it's possible to turn off the auto-leveling, I don't know.

You'd probably have more fun making your own character. Once you've gotten used to how the game works, it's definitely more fun to choose how you advance, rather than letting the game do it for you automatically.

So, if I use a character that I made up, I can choose what spells I get? And is that what you're saying, that you get spells by leveling up, and no other way? Please help....

Friend what I'm saying is how do you get spells? Do you get them automatically, or do you buy them, or what, or what......I am a premade char. right now, just so I can get the feel of the game (just bought it, wife said I could... ) All I want to know is how do I get more spells....

Let me get this straight. You're saying since I chose a pre-made char. that I can't get any more spells period?? Or that I can't choose what spells I get..... I'm confused

When you choose a premade character, it comes with an auto-leveling scheme. So instead of you choosing where to put the points you earn by leveling up (ie, more dexterity, more spells, whatever), the computer picks it out for you. It's like a dumbed down version of the actual game.

Now that you are using a premade character, I'm going to venture a guess and say that yes, you'll eventually get more spells added. Unfortunately, it's up to the computer as to what spells and at what level you get them.

If you use a hand-made character, then it's completely up to you how you spend the character points you earn when you level up.

AH-HA!!! Milo, I think you have answered my question. Thank you kindly. What you are saying then, is the way to get spells, (with-out a premade char) is to spend character points, am I right? Or do they become available to you as you gain a certain level of ability? confused myself again....

Well, it's obvious that every player will not get every spell in the game, How, therefore, do you get the ones you want? I mean does a screen pop up and say "Hello! Pick your new spell!" Or does a certain point level trigger a couple of spells that are now availiable to you and you have to spend your points to get one or the other..... *%&$#@ dagnabit.....this is hard....

    Bryant,
Here is the easiest way to look at the game. If you create your own character, you start out with 5 points to add anywhere that you like. Each time that you gain a level, you will hear a chime, and the icon at the top Left corner of the screen that looks like a circle with a lightning bolt in it, will light up. By clicking this, you open the character screen. Here you will be able to add that point to spells, tech, hit points, etc. Each level up gives you one point, but when you hit levels, 5, 10, 15, 20, etc, you gain 2 points to spend. There is also a way to define an automatic schema that will automatically disperse points according to a predefined method. Each of the schemas are focused toward specific character type, i.e., summoner, thief, etc.

If there is anything else, just ask, that is what we are all here for...

well I did read the manual. Through and through, but seeing how I was very new to the RPG genre, it is just taking me a little longer than some of you. I DO appreciate everyone's patience and generosity, however. You have ALL been most helpful.

Yeah, but check the archives first. Although answering questions that have already been answered does increase our post counts, it also annoys us when someone doesn't check whether or not the question has been previously answerd. But by all means ask if you can't find the answer.
