Are there ANY games at all out there that are like Arcanum? With all the freedom and stuff? I'm searching for my next game to buy...

Shamelessly advocating the superiority of Troika, have you tried Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines yet? Probably the best first-person RPG out there. The Temple of Elemental Evil is also good, at least if you like a classic dungeon romp and can live with all the bugs.

Other than that, I'd suggest Fallout, though I'm sure you've already had a go on it.

Planescape: Torment, Morrowind, and Daggerfall are good too.

The game is starting to get some age on it, but Darkened Skye is a pretty good first-person RPG.

Torment and Bloodlines are both good games, but compared to Arcanum they don't offer a lot of freedom. So you'd have to settle for the stuff. The two Fallout RPGs probably have more freedom than Arcanum though. But less stuff. Much less in the case of the first Fallout. The only thing I think offers more freedom and more stuff is to jump local vault servers in Neverwinter Nights. Not as balanced though, and the quality of the stuff is of course much lower.

Well I tried looking for demos for all those games. Only one I found was for the first Fallout, and when I downloaded it it crashed on startup :(

If you have a newer PC that demo will not run. As for Fallout 2 there is no demo. They are hard to find, but if you trust E-Bay you could probably find some copies there. If you do manage to locate them, and I also highly recommend using what-ever means at your disposal to get them, go to WWW.NMA-FALLOUT.COM for info on the latest patches( Killaps patch for FO2 is the one to get). They will also help you get it running properly on a newer PC if needed.

Although not precisely an RPG, but Evil Islands is such a beauty. Fun to play with complete freedom; yet since we started to categorize games by both freedom and stuff, it ranks fairly low on amount of items to find and synthesize. However the point remains that there ARE items to combine; and the graphics and story will definitely give you delight..

Mount & Blade is VERY good game. Try a demo: taleworlds.net. Made by turkish husband and wife team. Best combat system I've seen in a RPG.

You can buy Fallout and Fallout 2 without actually trying the demos. You can trust us on this one.

    ----

Fallout, Fallout 2, Arx Fatalis - All the three are great RPGs.

Planescape - Torment also kicks ass, but you need to get used to the atmosphere.

I think I'm gonna buy Fallout and Fallout 2 in a bundle on eBay.

Btw, Arx Fatalis is ALSO one of my favorite games of all times. It has been a running joke with me and my brother that we always say "password" in the guy's voice in Arx Fatalis who says it.
